Botanicula

DoraIt's easy to forget that being the little guy doesn't always have to mean getting your lunch money stolen or having sand kicked in your face. Game of the Year 2012Sometimes it's not about who's biggest, but who's willing to take the chances and do the most for the things that are important... even when it gets a little scary. Amanita Design's playful and stunning new point-and-click adventure Botanicula follows five tiny but determined forest sprites who are determined to save the last seed of their beloved tree from invading dark parasites. Packed with charm, rich design, imagination, and both humour and a bit of creepiness, it's the sort of adventure you can't help but be swept away in and root for the little guy every step of the way.

BotaniculaIn most ways, Botanicula plays like a typical point-and-click title. Moving your mouse around the sides of the screen will reveal arrows you can click to move to other locations, and your cursor will change if you pass it over a spot or creature you can interact with. Some objects require you to do more than just click; you can pull on switches, for example, or turn cranks by clicking and performing the appropriate mouse movement. If you move your cursor to the top of the screen you can check what you're carrying, as well as any items you should be gathering for your current objective, and moving it to the bottom will allow you to save and load your game, or change the settings.

Best of Casual Gameplay 2012Though under attack from an unknown menace, the massive tree you'll explore is still teeming with life. Weird, sometimes slightly alarming life, but life nonetheless. The myriad of little creatures you'll come across are often more concerned with their own tiny existences, but will sometimes help or hinder you. Whenever you encounter an obstacle in your story progression, you'll usually be given a visual list of items you need in your inventory at the top of the screen. As you explore, you'll come across various obstacles that need to be dealt with, and each of your intrepid band of heroes can be clicked on to try their hand (... twig... leaf?... uh... butt?) at helping out in certain locations. Not everyone will always be helpful, but hey, it's the thought that counts. Don't you wish you had a buddy who was always willing to plug something with their keister for you?

BotaniculaAnalysis: Botanicula is, in a word, gorgeous. It's also engrossing, delightful, and creative, but first and foremost, it's a beautiful game. The expressiveness and detail packed into each little creature is really remarkable, and the storybook environments are a joy to explore. Just because a particular area doesn't have anything relevant to your current objective doesn't mean you shouldn't explore; click around and you'll find oodles of little secrets that exist only to surprise you and provide a bit of extra magic. It's this attention to detail that makes Botanicula so incredibly rewarding to experience, and when you combine it with the game's stellar original soundtrack you have an otherworldly little tale that feels like a dream. Sometimes even a nightmare, since the farther your heroes venture the worse the parasite infestation becomes, and the game is definitely not without its creepy or even frightening moments.

In terms of gameplay and puzzles, Botanicula operates on its own logic, though not particularly difficult, and you're going to have to be open to experimenting in every screen. Since there are no words or even any real directions, all you can really do is try whatever you can think of and click around until you get a feel for what needs to be clicked in what sequence. In most cases, this works really well. Paying attention to your surroundings and how they react to your actions is all you need, and figuring out what each creature wants or needs is very rewarding. It's just unfortunate that Botanicula's effort at mouseplay sometimes get in the way of that reward. In particular, some of the puzzles that rely on mouse movement and physics to get past can be frustrating. Which is unfortunate, since in a game as surreal and lovely as this, annoyed is the last thing you want to be when the rest of the experience seems to be working so hard to draw you in.

Still, once Botanicula gets its hooks into you, even those infrequent irritations won't be enough to get you to stop. Just when you think you've seen everything, Botanicula pulls out something new. A new creature with its own bizarre biology. A place where fish swim through the trees or frogs serenade you. A holiday celebration. It's all so strange and wonderful that it's almost impossible not to want to see more. Botanicula is an amazing journey and has more than a little magic to share with you if you're willing to explore. You'll enjoy every hour you spend with it, especially if you take your time to hunt down all the little surprises hidden in each area. It's the sort of game you can find yourself grinning like a dope at. Highly recommended, unless you have something against having joy in your life. In which case, stop reading my articles, Mr Ebert.

Oh my gosh....could this be the BEST HUMBLE BUNDLE EVAH?!?!?!

This may be slightly off-topic, but I urge people to think twice before getting this game, especially through the bundle.

By having the game in a bundle on release day, Amanita are being very... well, to put it mildly, unkind to all of those who preordered the game on GOG or GamersGate (or to GOG and GamersGate themselves, for that matter). In short, people who pre-ordered got less content for more money.

Now, I wasn't planning on getting the game anyway, so this doesn't affect me - but I don't think this is acceptable behavior, and Amanita shouldn't be rewarded for doing this. Therefore, I recommend you skip the game and bundle entirely to help make that point clear. If you must get the bundle, at least give a larger cut to charity than you would normally have done.

"Unkind"?
Sorry, but I think that's ridiculous. Especially that you're making a stink and didn't even purchase the game yourself.

Anyone who had pre-purchased the game and received all the bonus content (which Humble Bundle purchasers do not receive) can easily purchase the bundle for a very low price if they feel cheated (but they shouldn't).

And besides, $10 is not a lot of money to pay for such a beautiful, award-winning game. I feel Amanita Design is being very kind to allow people to pay what they want for this new release (which includes both their other commercial releases bundled all together).

Of course this game would have to be released the same week that my bank account slides into negative numbers. Curse you Amanita designs!!! Hey, in the pay what you want... what if I want to pay with hugs and respect?

No?

Dammnit, that's the same answer the pizza delivery guy keeps giving me.

@Pidgeot; I can see where you're coming from, but I personally already own the other games they're offering in the bundle, as will most of the people wanting Botanicula seeing as Amanita has a loyal following, so anyone who decides to pay an amount under retail price for the bundle when they already own the other games will be taking advantage of Amanita's kindness. They are being generous.

When I do buy this though, I'll be paying full price and still feeling like I scored an absolute bargain.

@Pidgeot You sound like a H.A.T.E.R.S (Having Anger Towards Everybody Reaching Success), I'll buy the bundle just to make that point.

Thank you for making that excellent point, Dandy. Looking at the bundle page and my own purchase receipt, I think a lot of people are also "taking advantage" of the bundle to pay above the asking price, all for the sake of supporting some of our favorite Indie games developers.

Besides, in all game purchases--pre-sale, day of or off the clearance racks--we always pay what want. If only I could employ that same tactic with my internet provider, phone service, electric company, and so on...

Jay, if you don't think it's a problem, then that's fine with me - for all I care, you can give them $1000 for the bundle.

That doesn't change the fact that I do think it's a problem, and it has put me completely off from playing this game, or any of their other games, for that matter - so I believe it's only fair that people know it happened, so they can decide for themselves. If you're okay with it, or you think it's an honest mistake, then go ahead and get the game.

Yes, the Humble Bundle release doesn't contain artwork and most of the other things in the bonus pack at GOG, but it does contain the complete soundtrack, versus the 3 track sample at GOG, and I expect the majority of people care more about that particular bonus that the others combined.

Now, to be perfectly fair, it seems that Amanita is going to add more stuff for those who did pre-order at GOG - so that does balance things out a bit, and if this is simply an honest mistake, then they certainly do know about it now. (However, I'm not convinced that it was.)

Also, while the amounts involved may be small, I don't think that's a valid excuse, even if this happens to be the best game ever. They shouldn't have put it up for pre-order on other sites when they knew it was going in Humble Bundle on the day of release.

Again, you and everyone else are more than welcome to disagree with me, and I'm not going to complain if you do; I'm not even going to complain if this or my previous comment gets deleted. I just know that this is something I would want to know about before buying; if I'm the only one around here who shares that view, then so be it.

I just paid $25 for a game I have not previewed on your anger alone. I will let you know how it goes.

In principle though I have to be in favour of the pay what you think it is worth scenario, especially when you can top it up and spread the share .. I think it is a great idea. Though goodness knows how the game will pan out :)

and on a side note but aimed at Jay .. why no subs here ?

[I have no idea. What's a "sub"? -Jay]

If you know if commenting might get you deleted then why continue? Amanita Design are a group indie people are working on many things including Samorost 3. What I do watch is corporate people who seem to be plotting nasty things since the economic crisis which is why they messed up Mass Effect 3 D:<

I do understand your perspective even if I don't share it. But I do feel you are over reacting a bit, especially so soon after release.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if it were just an honest mistake, one made after backing themselves into a corner with the pre-order. I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the credible, talented people at Amanita Design and give them a chance to make things right. I'm sure they will make their other games available to everyone who had pre-ordered.

Same here, Dandy--but look, we have about 2 weeks to get it, so bookmark it and come back. That's my plan!

As for the debate, I have to agree with Jay that this is neither unkind nor is it unfair--it's in fact the most fair of pricing procedures, taking advantage of the fact that different kinds of buyers will buy at different rates, different times and for different reasons (this is Econ 101 stuff).

@several: Despite what you may or may not think, I'm not angry. I just believe in making informed decisions, and this is one of those things that go into the equation.

If you believe Amanita simply made an honest mistake, then give them as much money as you want - they probably deserve it! I don't believe that this was the case - but if I ever change my mind on that, I have no problem with forgetting that this ever happened.

@RedMug: Ultimately, the moderators decide what stays and what doesn't - and since this isn't strictly about the game, then I both realize and accept it may be considered too off-topic.

However, I stated (in what I consider a civil manner) that I don't trust Amanita based on what happened, and that I think it's a good idea if people are aware of this, so they can decide for themselves.

In return, Jay said he thinks I was being ridiculous. I don't think that's a fair word to use, so I elaborated.

And this has really dragged on for far too long now, so I hope we can all agree to disagree and leave it at that.

While you may be free to change your mind, your unkind comment will continue to live here forever painting Amanita Design as an unkind developer. So, not so easy to forget it ever happened.

And yeah, I think it's ridiculous that you think they're unkind, that they did it on purpose, and that you want to start a boycott of all their games because of it.

Dang, that's a lot of ranting. God bless interweb arguments. So, wait, I'm confused... who turned out to be the baby Hitler?

@Elle; I agree (and hope) that there'll be a lot of people paying above the asking price. Like when Radiohead released In Rainbows and asked people to pay what they wanted and it was (I think) their highest grossing album sale.

@Pidgeot; Informing people about the facts and actively discouraging people to support an independent design company are two different things. Especially when expressing a poorly thought out opinion. Telling people not to buy something is not letting them "decide for themselves". I agree to disagree and I don't think anyone thought you were angry. Until you wrote those essays. Then they thought YOU MAD.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the game so far. Right now I'm trying to collect some ducks.

And for the record, I've previously purchased all the other games in this bundle, but I still chose to pay $10 (full price for Botanicula on its own) because I wanted to support the developers.

I love the Humble Bundle folks. I almost always buy their offerings.

Dear Dora,

What's this about Mr. Ebert (I presume famed critic Roger Ebert) reading your reviews?

I have read his posts on his site about the "are games art?" debate, I have to wonder if this connects with that.

I'd love it if you would illuminate me here.

Pidgeot, I'm puzzled at your disappointment. Ten dollars seems like a bargain for a game of Botanicula's quality. Are you unhappy that you could have paid even less than that? Ironically, I paid more than you did voluntarily.

Cool. Amanita has a track record of excellent games and Botanicula looks like it'll live up to that standard. I could easily part with 10-15 bucks in support of this talent and a cool charity, and not get hung upon who else gets what else for what price.

Though it hits me a bit sad to see a preordered product suddenly bundled and placed into today's equivalent of the bargain bin, right on release day.

I miss the good old days when preorders were a big deal, and early adopters were rewarded significantly more for supporting an unreleased game, than casual buyers who simply picked up the finished product off the shelves later on. Now that this special appreciation seems to be eroding, I won't be surprised to see gamers' trust going along with it as well. The door swings both ways.

Update: Amanita Design has issued an apology about the pre-orders and offered bonuses sufficient enough to make those who didn't pre-order a bit jealous. So all is good. (And it probably would've happened with polite requests just as easily because they really are a very nice company!)

So, um, is anyone talking about the actual gameplay? I could use a hint. I think I need to

get a big gray eyeball from some circus-performing Hershey's Kiss things,

which might require me to

get a helmet for the cannon guy first, which I don't know how to do.

Any little nudges for me?

Score: 0 (0 votes) Vote up Vote down Report this comment Reply

Lucie,

Don't worry about the little guy missing a helmet for now, he's an extra and not necessary to complete the level.

You do, however, need that eyeball the circus performer is using. You'll have to find a replacement ball for the teardrop shaped creature to use, which means you need to explore a few other areas first.

If you get hopelessly stuck or have any other questions, take a look at Chapter 6 in the walkthrough above the comments for step-by-step instructions to acquire the Ball at Scene 20.

  2. Go down the lower right tunnel to the cannon room at the next scene.

Scene 28 - Cannon Room

  1. Give the Helmet from your inventory to the teardrop-shaped creature sitting on the hill.

  2. Click the down arrow at the bottom of the cannon to move underneath it.

  3. Click the fuse at the back to fire the cannon.

    • A new card for the cannon creature will be added to your deck.

  4. If the cymbal at the circus scene was correctly positioned, the cannonball will fire the creature directly into it, triggering the circus cinematic.

    • At the end of the clip, a new card for the circus will be added to your deck.

  5. Go back to the bouncy creatures at Scene 24, then continue down the lower right tunnel to travel to the temple.

Scene 29 - Temple

  1. Talk to the floating creature to give him the 4 Element boxes from your inventory.

    • A new card for the floating creature will be added to your deck.

  2. After the cinematic, you will be transported to the next area.

    • You will also receive two new cards in your deck: one for the element boxes and one for the red sphere.

Chapter 7

Scene 1 - Dark Room

  1. This scene acts as the main hub to all of the other area.

  2. Move your cursor to the one side of the screen, then click the directional arrow to move to that side.

    • Your character will initially bump against the doorway; simply click the door again to enter that area.

  3. Refer to the map below to see all available directions needed to complete the zone.

  4. Complete the minigames to acquire the white sphere in each section, then exit the room to return to the main scene.

  5. Move right to go to Scene 2.

Scene 2 - East Room

  1. In this area, you must make it to the white sphere by shooting any approaching creatures before they can attack.

  2. Click your character to select him (he will start to sparkle and glow) then move the cursor over an enemy to fire at it.

  3. The red light inside an enemy's body indicates how many shots it takes to kill it.

  4. First Section

    • Click your character to start moving through the first section.

    • You will be attacked by five enemies who approach one at a time - each enemy will only take one shot to kill.

    • After the 5th enemy is dead, the pincer enemy will attack; shoot the monster three times to destroy it.

    Second Section

    • When you reach the second section, another round of five enemies with will attack.

      • Shoot each of them once as they approach to destroy them.

    • After they're gone, you will be attacked simultaneously by one enemy that takes 2 hits to kill, and a second enemy that takes 6 hits to kill.

      • Destroy the 2-hit enemy first, then take out the larger enemy.

    Third Section

    • As you enter the third area, two enemies that take one hit to kill will attack.

    • After they're dead you will be simultaneously attacked by multiple enemies from all directions at once.

      • Shoot each enemy one time to destroy it, prioritizing the ones that are closest or moving the fastest first.

    • Click the white sphere on the stand at the bottom to lure the giant monster.

      • You must shoot this enemy 17 times to kill it before it devours you.

    • After it's destroyed, click the White Sphere (1/6) to consume it.

  5. Click the arrow at the top of the area to exit the room and return to Scene 1, then move to the upper right corner to travel to the next scene.

    • You will also receive a new card for the giant creature in your deck.

Scene 3 - Northeast Room

  1. The goal in this area is to reach the white sphere by lowering all of the monsters at the end of the long stems.

    • Click one of the seven black creatures with a shortened stem to extend it.

      • Making one stem longer will shorten one or more different stems connected to the one you clicked.

    • Refer to the screenshot below and click the stems in numbered order from 1-5 to solve the puzzle:

    • Solution.

  2. After all of the monsters have been lowered, click the White Sphere (2/6) at the upper right corner to collect it.

    • A new card for the stem creatures will be added to your deck.

  3. Return to Scene 1, then go directly up to travel to the next scene.

Scene 4 - North Room

  1. To complete this area, you much reach the white sphere inside the top pod at the middle without being caught by the collector monster.

  2. Wait for the monster to capture you inside the lower left pod.

  3. Open the adjacent pod to the left to release the large creature with the hat.

    • Quickly click the empty pod to sneak inside of it while the guard chases after the hat creature.

  4. Next, release the round creature from the upper left pod.

    • Again, you have to click the empty pod to hide inside while the guard is distracted.

  5. Open the hat creature's pod a second time.

    • While the guard is chasing the hat creature, enter the pod containing the White Sphere (3/6) to collect it.

    • You will also receive a new card for the guard monster in your deck.

  6. Return to scene one, then move towards the top left corner to travel to the next scene.

Scene 5 - Northwest Room

  1. Click the white sphere in the middle of the empty room to reveal the giant red monster.

    • Click the monster's legs before it has a chance to attack you.

  2. After the monster falls to a pileon the room, click its body to chase it around the room and it will divide into five sections.

    • If you move the cursor over the white ball, it will hop to a different section.

  3. Move the white sphere to the section that is second from the left, then click the red body under the white sphere to start the minigame.

    • Your character will be absorbed into a round bubble and fall towards the bottom of the screen.

    • Before it has a chance to hit the floor, click the mouse to launch a jellyfish monster into the air, which will bounce your character's bubble back up.

    • Hitting the bubble from the left or right will push it to the sides, so aim your hits a little off to the side if you need to move horizontally.

  4. When the bubble touches the White Sphere (4/6) it will be added to your inventory and end the minigame.

    • A new card for the red monster will be added to your deck.

  5. Return to Scene 1, then move to the left to travel to the next scene.

Scene 6 - West Room

  1. In this area, there are four snake-like monsters guarding the white sphere at the bottom.

  2. Click the snake's heads in the correct order to tangle their heads so you can safely pass.

    • Refer to the screenshot below and click the snakes in numbered order from 1-4 to solve the puzzle:

    • Solution.

  3. Before the snake heads have a chance to untangle, click the sphere at the bottom of the screen and they will try to attack you and tighten their knots.

    • Now you can safely move to the bottom and take the White Sphere (5/6).

    • A new card for the snake monsters will also be added to your deck.

  4. Return to Scene 1, then go straight down to travel the next scene.

Scene 7 - South Room

  1. Click the black spider monster to start the cutscene.

This is a wonderful game! It made me smile on many occasions and the soundtrack is delightful. This is the first time I have paid for a game online but it was worth every penny (cent?)I was very sad when I reached the end :( Thank you Amanita - fabulous.... And thank you too to JIG for keeping up the standard of games-worth-playing.

Ooh, Amanita! I just bought my first Humble Bundle. ;)

Does anyone know whether it's possible/permissible to download for multiple OSes? Or do I have to make a choice and stick with it?

i have problems in the hanging rope room. considering the walkthrough, there has to be a blue flower down and a sun box up there. i already collected all blue flowers (although i have never been in that room before). i don't see a flower or a box. could it be a bug?

luliaaaa,

Have you had a look at the two screenshots that accompany the text? They show the exact location of both of the items you mentioned. I just want to emphasize that the Upper and Lower sections of that area are two completely different scenes that look very similar.

It's likely that there could be more than 8 blue flowers available to find - just like there were more than 3 findable coins in Chapter 5. In that case, after you found the needed amount, any remainders would disappear. That would explain why you're not seeing the blue flower.

However, the only place I'm aware of where you can get the Sun block is in the Tightrope Doors Upper Section, which is only accessible by going through Door B (indicated in the first screenshot).

If you're still unable to find it, please let me know.

Just finished, and man was that a good game! The design & characters are just wonderful, I especially liked the part of the game when they were on the tree with the acorn looking characters. It's such a cute game, & love the plot.

I managed to get 113/123 cards & got two bonus gifts at the end...I was wondering if anyone else was willing to share how many gifts they got for how many cards & what bonus scenes were inside.
One of them was the main guys taking a picture & chasing a mushroom. The other was them getting a trophy & the parasite came and they smacked him with the trophy...

Great stuff.

It's my pleasure, Lucie :) The walkthrough is still a work in progress as there are a few creature cards missing. If you - or anyone else - find anything not included in the walkthrough, please let me know!

All cards are 123 in total, I think.

Found 116 myself, then I found this guide (thank you) and decided to play again as I was under influence thorugh the first chapter and missed some :) and found 119 only...

I can tell that your guide is missing some cards in Chapter 5 - i.e. inside "Snow Room" keep cliking the hut for some penguins and a card, also keep clicking the box in the The Jack-In-The-Box Room for an extra card.

Return to the The Vending Machine Room and make the stork pick up the frog for another card.

Due to the fact that the egg can be hatched in another hut too, the Frankestein hut puzzle seems illogical afterwards.

Got 3 gifts at the end (116 or 119/ 123), two of them were mentined above. Third one is the beet root fighting the black parasite Jedi style :)

I seem to be missing a coin.

I found two, one behind the painting and one in the green drawer. The third is supposed to be in the room with the vending machine, but it's not there. It's also not in the nest.

Anyone else run into this? Is there some other place I should be looking, or did I hit a bug?

Personally, I believe that anyone with a scrap of conscience will pay at least $9 for the bundle, seeing as this game is so amazing!

I buy each bundle for $5 as it comes along, and a few weeks later, go back and add on extra for all the games I enjoy (often, most of them!)

generic geek girl,

Try putting the coins you've collected so far into the vending machine. If that's not enough, there's also one more coin in the Snow Room if you click the igloo 2 additional times after the Bird comes out.

Thank you very much for the rec, Dora. This is easily one of the best games I've played in a long time. I loved everything about it: storyline, characters, universe, 'puzzles', sounds & music (wish we could have smell and touch too ;). All the little magic moments and hidden secrets make you want to play it a second and even a third time just to enjoy the journey and everything the game has to offer.
I bought the bundle to have the opportunity to pay more for it - I wasn't interested in the other games - and it was definitely worth every cent.

A few cards you must have gotten but didn't mention I believe:
-- Chapter 2 -> Scene 6: you get a card for the cone buzzing creatures
-- Chapter 2 -> Scene 18: you get a card for the bee flying you to the bee hive
-- Chapter 3 -> Scene 1: you also get a card for the genie
-- Chapter 4 -> Scene 5: you get a card for the hungry slug
-- Chapter 4 -> Scene 10: you get a card for the adult crab creature
-- Chapter 4 -> Scene 18: you get a card for the child crab creature
-- Chapter 4 -> Scene 19: you need to remove *all* the sheep to get the card; I didn't get it the first time I played.
-- Chapter 4 -> Scene 20: you also get a card for the long-legged creature
-- Chapter 5 -> House 7: once you get the egg you get a card for the shaman

And one other possible location for a blue seed: at the end of the puppet show when they're eating the black spider, there's a seed on the table.

Another stunning, adorable game from Amanita. Thank you, game developers, for offering this in Linux as well! No bugs at all, a beautiful smooth playing experience.

Incredible sound, addictively cute voice samples and beautiful music (the music also reminded me of Sigur Ros in places, which is a good thing).

I thought the last portion of the game owed a lot to Coil - anyone else agree? (again, not a bad thing, I love that game).

Just finished it and look forward to playing it again.

I missed getting the peanut helmet. I raced those beetles over and over! I just read the walkthrough and I see what I did wrong. Next time!

Strange thing - I signed up for pre-order information but never got my email. Ah well, at least I was spared the above kerfuffle. The bundle was very trouble-free.

@OneBreath

You got the number of cards in the transitions swapped.

The turkey is the third card in the first transition, not the second.

Also, since it's easier to count the total number you have, here's a table that saves some math:

  • Chapter 1 (Feathers): 11 cards total after getting the feather creature card.

  • Chapter 2 (Keys): 29 cards total, before using the keys.

  • Interlude (Genie): 35 cards total, once the last cutscene ends.

  • Chapter 3 (Children): 2nd wiseman and 56 cards total, after getting the round creature card.

  • Chapter 4 (Chickens): 81 cards total before using the chickens.

  • Transition: 84 cards total once the cutscene ends.

  • Chapter 5 (Leaves): 3rd wiseman and 116 cards total before using the four items.

  • Transition: 118 cards total once the cutscene ends.

  • Chapter 6 (Energy): 123 cards total before the end.

I just won this game. I used the walkthrough since I just wanted to see the story, and it was absolutely amazing. I would like to point out, though, that it seems like the walkthrough is not complete. I only got 121/132 cards (I think) and I missed one Steam achievement. Maybe I just missed something? Anyway, great game!

Score: 0 (0 votes) Vote up Vote down Report this comment Reply

Hi, Jonathan. Congrats on beating the game! :) Currently, there are 123 creature cards in total. My guess is that the missing Steam achievement is for having collected all the cards, but I couldn't say for sure since I purchased my version off the indie bundle.

All 123 cards are included in the walkthrough, and I just added screenshots for a visual reference to every card at the start of each chapter so you can check to see where you may have missed some.

This is an awesome walkthrough. Did you notice that you assume every creature is male throughout the whole game?! It's hard to avoid societal brainwashing, I know. I like to point it out when I see it happening.

Thanks, I'm glad you found it helpful :)

I tried to use as many gender ambiguous terms as often as I could. Though it's been a few months, I can think of three characters I assumed were female right off the top of my head, so I'll have to work on my brainwashing a bit more.

I know I'm running a little behind in playing this one, but can anyone tell me how to get out of the card view? I clicked on my cards early in the game and nowhere I click appears to close it again. Had to restart. Since I'm not too far in yet (just after finding the first feather) I didn't worry too much about just restarting, but I don't want to have to do this if it happens later in the game. :(
