joyeHordes of HordesHordes of Hordes. It's a title that ought to strike fear into any unsuspecting tower defense fan's heart, because there's nothing quite so annoying as killing a creature and having it spawn lots of little creatures. And what if the hordes' hordes contain more hordes? Is it hordes all the way down? Fortunately, this new chibi-cute game from Undefined isn't quite that evil.

A build-your-own-path style game, the user experience could have been improved a lot with the addition of an undo button, since messing up barricades in particular can send you down a spiral of shame and degradation that you can't claw out of, short of restarting the level. An in-level mute button also would have been nice. Still, the game gives an interesting variety of traps, spells, and towers to unleash upon your foes, and is fairly well-balanced to boot, so you can try a lot of different approaches to any given map: you could fill up your ten slots with mana boosters and damage spells, for example, or try a combination of slowing and splash damage in traps and towers. Just make sure you think very carefully about your plan before you place things, and you'll find this a pleasant game play experience.

Cute game. I can't figure out how to make changes to the "lineup" stick. I click modify, choose the traps, fighters and spells I want, then there is nothing to click to make it stick. I've tried everything, including going straight to the campaign. But once I get there, I have the original lineup. Sigh.

Aha...POTP...you actually have to choose 10, not just the ones you want or will actually use.

I thought levels went on for way too long, and the 2x speed button is not of that much help. That plus the amount of upgrading involved makes it far too time-consuming.

Agreed wholeheartedly with Wagner, seems cute/fun but when I lasted until after wave 110(!) on endless play on one of the maps I wanted to cry for a 10x speed button instead of a 2x speed button... Too tedious, faster play and cheaper upgrades more often would make things fun otherwise it is just obsessive-compulsive to play through.

Used Holy Rain once in a map and the game started freezing for a couple of seconds every 5 seconds or so. Used it a second time much later on the map and the intermittent freezes became bad enough that they occasionally made the 'unresponsive script' warning pop up.

I like the name of this game! lol

I find it odd that the review is so neutral and the comments so critical.

Fun game, but just like it's predecessor Necro's 1&2, the endless grinding removes some of the fun.

- needs 10x speed button
- upgrading seems awkward. Perhaps would have been better if units unlock to awards. Than keep upgrading separate.
- unit description of some of the units would have helped too and what it's weakness is. I just didn't understand how to beat certain units like zombies and the high armor stuff.

Once you figure out a good strategy, it's really pretty easy.

Some tips:

At the start of each map, pause and look at the enemy waves. In particular, look for waves of enemies with the "unit ignore" ability. If there are none, don't worry too much about traps.

To deal with "unit ignore" waves you usually need 4 times the number of traps needed to kill a single enemy. This is because each trap will usually only be able to hit 1 in 4 enemies due to their reset time.

Warriors deal twice as much damage per second as archers do for only a little bit more money. As such, focus on building warriors.

In general, worry more about damage per second of your units than about their range. Make sure you have enough units so that you'll be able to take the enemies that come fast or in a large group.

I too had a problem with the Holy Rain spell. Also, I agree that a 4x and/or 10x speed would be awesome.

Also, I wouldn't bother with the endless mode unless you're going for the achievements. You don't get many more resources, and each time I've tried it I haven't even received all the resources it says I did (probably a bug).

How can i defeat invisible units?
sometimes a large group of units walk through the map without being attacked by any towers like sword soldiers, bowman, magician and else. Does somebody know how to kill them?

@billclinton:
That sounds like a wave that has the "unit ignore" ability. As far as I know, there is no way to get your units to hit them. In order to kill them you need to use traps.

I like this game except for the flaws mentioned above. There is one additional thing that drives me nuts -- no smart targeting.

The archer shoots whoever is close to him, rather than close to the exit. So, instead of finishing off an enemy... he shoots a new enemy and I lose lives. This is just stupid. The vast majority of TD (Bloons, for example) have smart targeting or leave the choice for targeting up to the player.

This needs to be fixed.

@billclinton:
I found using the prone spell (Which makes all units prone to traps) works the other way round too, so your units can target all hordes.
