Chuck the Sheep

DoraChuck the SheepWho knew sheep resented being shorn so much? Or at least... this little guy does. In Chuck the Sheep, a launch game by jmtb02 featuring the adorable artistic stylings of Jimp, you play the titular woolly hero who thinks losing his fleece is the ultimate indignity. Naturally, the only way to avoid the farmer's shears is to craft a plane out of the materials he finds lying around the farm and soar to freedom!... eventually. After crashing into the ground a whole bit. Just hit the [spacebar] to launch Chuck when you're ready and use the [arrow] keys to keep him flying as long as possible. Just try to avoid hitting too many bombs (naturally occurring in the wilds), since that would be baaaaaad, and if you sustain enough damage there'll be mutton you can do about crashing.

Unlike most launch games, you don't get cash from thin air to upgrade your ride, and instead you'll have to do your best to snag resources such as wood or stone to craft improvements. (It sounds slightly more realistic until you see all the dirt clods floating in midair.) Like Jetpack Joyride, you'll also be given "quests" in the form of mini-objectives that will reward you with experience when completed... get enough experience to level up and be showered with a big resource prize for your efforts. If you're having trouble nabbing enough of a particular thing to upgrade, you can also exchange certain amounts of one item for another between launch days. This, and the ability to trade in cards you win for flying through rings, helps take the sting out of getting fleeced at the upgrades screen.

With a unique approach to upgrades, snappy gameplay, and, of course, Jimp's fantastic artwork, Chuck the Sheep is a fun and bouncy new addition to the launch category of games. You'll have to do a fair amount of grinding to get anywhere, but the objectives to accomplish on each launch helps to keep you occupied, and the shear amount of detail in your environments and items to bash means it's hard to find yourself bored. It's silly, it's cheerful, and it's got loads of personality that make it the perfect choice for a little break in your day. It's also got the... that... uh... sheep puns... aw, forget it, I can't think of any more!

It was a hot summer, and shearing day on the farm.

All the sheep were happy to get rid of their winter coats.

...Apart from ONE sheep.

Chuck had seen poor lambs being stripped of their dignity before, and he wasnt [sic] going to let it happen to him.

Yes, Chuck had a plan!

He was going to escape from the farm!

Look inside to see what happens!

Ship Upgrades

There are 7 things to upgrade: Hulls, Wings, Fuel tanks, wheels, boosters, engines, and shields.
Each does a different function.

Hulls protect the ship from damage.

Wings increase maneuverability for ship.

Fuel tanks hold fuel.

Wheels decrease friction and allows flightless travel.

Boosters increase launch height.

Engines provide thrust for the ship.

Shields increase manual shield time (to protect ship)

Exchanges

You can exchange materials for other ones.

2 logs make a rock.

Food and a rock create a log.

2 rocks create water.

A rock and a log create a stone.

2 waters create food.

A log and food create paper.

A stone and a log create mercury.

Water and a stone create a metal bar.

Mercury and a metal bar create lightning.

Cards

If you have matching cards, you can exchange them for materials. The more cards you trade at once, the larger the bonus.

This will have to do for now. I'm getting lazy!

hi how do you get the paper material???

@deadpool So far I know is through the exchange at the shop and through level ups.

@deadpool: I think the only ways are to:

1) Exchange for it (logs and water), 2) Get it as a bonus when you level up, or 3) Collect cards by going through the rings and exchange those for it.

What you must do to beat the game:

make it 25,000 feet in distance. Do that, and the game's over regardless of what else you did or didn't do. Took me about 45 minutes.

Game feels a little long-winded.

Unless I'm doing something completely wrong...

Boosters. Took me forever to even notice I had them. Max them and you're basically good to go, since you're shielded when boosting.

Use [shift] for boosters

There was a point where I had been damaged enough to lose my fuel and was on the ground, turned on the boosters and lo-and-behold, I started going -45 MPH. That's right, negative.

I kept going backwards and backwards until

I crossed the 0 foot threshold and was greeted with a change of scenery which read "Welcome to HELLO".

At some point after using all six boosters I managed to get back into the positive and finished with barely 400 feet for my day. Is this a bug?

I totally just discovered the "hit space for shield" thing. I'll bet that's how you shield break a mine. Sweet.

To complete the achievment where you have to travel without your ship you have to crash into things and destroy every part of your ship in one run.

What is the difference between "rock" and "stone" I think you mean dirt... Also "mercury" should read "oil"...

Lastly, I made it 50,000 ft and still have not been able to complete the last quest... Any ideas?

I have the same problem, can't beat magnum valley twice therefor I cannot complete the last quest beating the game.. Do I have to start over?? I have reached over 60,000ft and it still does nothing different.

Same problem as Darkschine and Pauser007. I'm glad I read their comments because I had only made 40,000 ft and was wondering how much farther I needed to go. Perhaps it's a bug? Completing the first 99 quests without ever getting to the end screen seems impossible.

@Yeroen
The way I reached 30mph:

Get lots of fuel, and rocket up to the top and then down to the ground. Repeat. I found that you didn't hit as much on the way down as you do on the way up, so once you're going fast enough and find that you're hitting things on the way up, you can Boost your way to the top and then rocket your way down (by 'rocket' I mean hold the down key and use fuel).

This is also how I completed the

'use all your fuel' achievement.

How do you shield break 3 mines?! I don't know how to shield break or even what that is! Help please.

Score: 0 (0 votes) Vote up Vote down Report this comment Reply

@ Jenna,

You can:

hold down the spacebar which activates your shield. If you do this right when you're about to hit a mine you will end up "shield breaking" it

Hope this helps!

How do I complete the achievment of "complete a level 3 or higher perfect spin"?

How do you get the achievement 'Stop 2 perfect spins?'

Score: 0 (0 votes) Vote up Vote down Report this comment Reply

Looks like because Magma Flats were already 'once completed' in game, that it stays stuck on 99 quests. :/
