Battle Beavers

TrickyBattle BeaversIt was a time of peace. The tribe was ruled by a fair and just leader named Bold, a ruler known across the plains for his fairness and generosity. However, trouble was brewing in the Mountains of Moira: Rangor the Terrible had raised a dread army of conquest, and sprung an attack in which no prisoner was taken. With his village decimated and his son kidnapped, Bold once again took up the garments of a warrior to lay siege to the hordes pillaging the land. Oh... and by the way, Bold is a Beaver. That would presumably explain why the name of Rob Almighty's and John Donkin's new RPG-brawler is Battle Beavers. 'Twould only make sense.

The [arrow] keys move your beaver, with [A] performing a quick light attack, [S] a slow powerful attack, and [D] blocking an attack from an enemies. Hitting attacks in certain orders make for more powerful combos. Different magic spells are unlocked throughout the game, and, should you have enough magic points on hand, are fired with the [1-6] number keys. Defeating enemies grants you XP, and with each level you gain, you'll have stat points to distribute for greater attack, defense, vitality/health, agility, critical hit luck, and magic. Also, defeated enemies drop shells which can be traded at Otto's Shop for weapons and equipment that grants various stat bonuses. You'll need all the stats you can get to face off against the Ferrety-Vikings, Beaver-Pirates, Foxy-Centurions, Badger-Mercenaries, Squirrelly-Spartans, and Martin-the-Warrior-knows what else.

For a game about woodland critters, Battle Beavers has quite the hardcore edge to it. There's an impressive amount of customization to be found here, and while the enemies are nicely varied, they can be quite unforgiving. It's definitely a mark against that some areas require much grinding to pass, and that some of the enemies suffer questionable hit detection along the y-axis, but the art and story are uniquely engaging. If you're in the mood for classic River City Ransom brawling excitement, with a dash of fantasy, you'll be happy to leave it to Battle Beavers.

So, the boss battle seems extremely hard. Any suggestions/battle tactics?

Boss Battle

Approach boss from either above or below as you are safe there. Get in close and use the combo attacks to get him on the floor and try to follow up each time so as to keep him there.

I saved all my magic for the boss battle so I could recharge health with spell 5 half way through. I didn't use any of the other spells.

I had been putting most of my additional stats into attack. That may have helped.

Beyond that it was basically a lot of button bashing and quick movement (double tap) to be in the right place at the right time.

I just completed the game... I really liked it! Boss battle:

I put most of my points into luck. I approached the boss from either above or below like MdB said, and then just spammed A. I had 210 mana so I could heal myself four times ^^'

I found the final boss very easy. What I did was:

Saved my meteor storm spell for the boss. I was able to cast it 3 times which got him down to 2/3 his HP. Then I would dash into him and press Strong Attack then Light Attack. This makes your beaver do a chest bump which creates a wave that hits about 2 character spaces away, can hit multiple enemies, and pushes enemies away so it is always a safe move to do. This attack ALWAYS has priority over all of his attacks - even his specials. Honestly, once I figured this out, this was my main method of killing everything in the game.

...on the final boss

I killed the boss baddie by belly-bumping him to death. lots of fun. you need to have alot of vitality though - cause that hammer can knock alot of points off ya.

oh and

make sure you have all your gold armor on and trident before you get there as well as all the bonus stat points from the previous battles.

Oh - also

make sure you have your regenerate magic capability (#5. It's 50 points so you're going to want to have alot of magic points as well as vitality points - so you go into the final battle with at LEAST 200 life points.

Basically the only two things I put points in was strength and agility. The only thing I ever did was Belly Bump. I wiped the floor with EVERYONE. No one stood a chance, because belly bumps stun and it's unblockable. The boss ate it quick.

hints for upgrades:

upgrade magic alot then others

To defeat the boss:

Use the SAA combo, press it as soon as the tip of the edge of his hammer comes near you. It will throw him back, then wait for him to come to you again. Don't go to him! Do it over and over, he won't even touch you once! No heal, defense or vitality necessary.

If you do get hit and lose the pattern (i.e. he's now too close to you), move up or down, then dash (double tap the arrow key) to a new spot and wait for him to come to you. Never go to him!
