RE: Alistair++

RE: Alistair++

DoraIf RE: Alistair++ was a food, it would probably be a sugar cookie. One decorated like a pink bunny. The first offering from newcomer developers Sake Visual is a visual novel centering around Merui, a young girl who gets a valuable item stolen from her in a popular online role-playing game. The thief, Alistair, promises he'll return it... if she can figure out who he is "in real life". In no time, Merui has her suspects... but you'll have to balance her school work and her social life to untangle the plot. With five different endings and three "bonus" endings that can appear if you spend enough time with certain people, RE: Alistair++ is a surprisingly fun and polished little adventure with a lot of replay value, and even some bonuses to unlock. Oh, and did we mention it's completely free? Yeah, thought you might like that.

RE: Alistair++Interaction is done simply by clicking on whatever option you want when it pops up. Each day, you're given three opportunities to decide Merui's schedule, and depending on what you pick, you'll run into different people, or affect her stats in various ways. Merui's intelligence, social and network reputations all play a role in how the game proceeds, so you'll need to pay attention to what bonuses you get when you perform an activity. If you really want to get the most out of your activities, you can simply take advantage of the game's ability to save anywhere and reload if something doesn't go your way. Of course, that would be cheating, and I would never recommend that, except when I do, such as right now.

Of course, the emphasis here is on finding out Alistair's identity, but that probably won't be a problem, since the plot is fairly easily figured out. You can only confront Alistair at the end of the month, so you might as well make the most of the time you've got. Make sure to spend time with everyone, but don't neglect your school project, or your after school job; earn enough money and you can buy different items at the mall that can have an effect on your stats, or on certain encounters.

Analysis: Basically, I am very hardcore and I don't play girly frilly sweet kawaii games. Except games like RE Alistair ++, which are super, super cute and fun. Of course, these days it isn't enough to just be adorable, and fortunately the up-and-comers at Sake Visual have put together a piece of work that looks astoundingly professional from its clean art down to its menus. After looking at the screenshots and then running the game, I had to double and triple check the word "demo" wasn't hidden anywhere. There's no voice acting, however; more's the pity, since the high, overly-dramatic, anxious voices made popular by many an anime series would have been the cherry on top of the presentation.

RE: Alistair++The plot is exceedingly simple, and you're probably familiar with the archetypes each character represents by now; there's Mature and Aloof Guy With Glasses, Flirty Sporty Guy With Ridiculous Hair, and Quiet Shy Guy Who Studies Alot. This is not the story of the century, but simple, enjoyable fluff designed to make you smile. Merui, despite having an oddball name for no apparent reason, is actually a fairly likable protagonist; spunky, but realistically so. The cast could dearly have used some fleshing out, since Merui and the three boys are the only characters you'll ever see; tossing in a few minor characters here and there would have gone a long way towards alleviating the "Ghost Town" vibe the game occasionally gives off.

The game's biggest flaw is actually the curse of repetition. Because of how small the cast is, you'll spend a lot of time just grinding on various stats, or trying to earn enough money to buy an item that might unlock an extra chunk of dialogue. Figuring out just what you can do to make the most of every encounter can take a bit of guesswork, especially since the various items at the mall may (or may not) have an impact. It can be frustrating to go long stretches of time where nothing happens, especially with a deadline looming.

Light but sweet, cheeky, and fun, RE Alistair ++ is a polished offering from a talented new group of indie developers you should be keeping an eye on if you're a fan of the genre. Alistair's identity is always the same, unfortunately, but depending on your choices throughout the game there are a surprising number of endings to uncover. If you plan on replaying the game to try for an alternate ending, enabling text skip in the options menu will blur you right through all the dialogue you've seen before (stopping for choices) and drop back to normal speed at new bits of text. While your first playthrough probably won't take you more than an hour, and subsequent playthroughs even less, it's a remarkably well put together game that promises great things from its developers.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

I know I'm wayyyy late to the party, but I just played through this game and after taking the trouble to buy all store items just to see what stats they affected, have made this probably useless list:

Boundary's Books:

Notebook - $12, +10 intelligence
History of Greece - $35, gets you an extra CG with Shiro and boosts his affection
Planetost - $15, +20 social reputation but -6 intelligence, boosts Derek's affection
Rivenwell Online Official Guide - $35, +10 network reputation
Diary - $20, +6 intelligence and +7 social reputation
Encyclopedia - $70, +25 intelligence
Classic Literature - $25, +13 intelligence
Cookbook - $30, +10 intelligence and +12 social reputation but -4 network reputation

The Divide Clothing:

Evening Gown - $65, gets you an extra CG with Derek and boosts his affection
Spring Dress - $35, boosts Shiro's affection
Grey Sweater - $25, boosts Travis's affection
Tank Top - $17, boosts Derek's affection
Pink Shirt - $40, not sure what this one does (maybe just there to bring the item count to 8?)
Butterfly Skirt - $30, boosts Shiro's affection
Track Pants - $25, boosts Travis's affection
Trendy Capris - $45, boosts Derek's affection

Gamego:

Imperialon - $50, +15 network reputation but -4 intelligence
MovieManiac - $30, +5 intelligence and +9 social reputation
Diamond Moon: Final Phase - $50, boosts Travis's affection
Other Saga - $35, +9 social reputation and +7 network reputation
Monochrome Diet - $35, +12 network reputation but -4 social reputation, boosts Shiro's affection
Demon of Edo - $35, +10 network reputation and gets you an extra CG with Travis
Walk This Way - $20, +10 intelligence
Rock Festival - $60, +15 social reputation

Shiro was my favorite; I guess I just have a thing for shy and sweet guys. Travis comes second, and I didn't really like Derek in the other guys' endings, though he does become more sympathetic in his own ending.

Looks cool, maybe I'll try it.

False dreams of hope for us Linux users!!! D:

Cute game, but I'm not willing to play through again and again to get all endings.

I got the ending where Rui and Alistair/Derek aren't too mad at each other because they decided that they were both jerks. Alistair counted 29 days as "a month" and Rui reported Alistair for prohibited betting within the MMO. "Don't get mad. Just get your enemy's banned."

It was a really cute game~ I played the game through 3x, but was missing one picture from Travis's ending. I like how they allowed for the fast forwarding of text for the next playthrough. It definitely saved me a lot of time!

There's another game called Jisei out by them, but it's not a full free download. I played the demo and it's quite an interesting concept... Just don't have the money to buy it -.-;

Be careful everyone. This seems to *not* provide a clean uninstall. It still shows up in my Program Files folder after uninstalling, and who knows where else...?

Check the website. There's more there than just the download link if you get stuck. They have an FAQ and Walkthrough handy if you have trouble getting all the endings and CGs.

Love this game! I downloaded it a few months ago, and I still come back to find the endings I haven't yet caught every once in a while. And what can I say? DAMN, Travis is hot.

I'm surprised at how polished and cute this game is. Myself, I'm most drawn to Shiro. I'm also impressed because this isn't just one of those "I'm such a pretty girl and there's three gorgeous guys drooling over me what do I do?" type of games. All of the boys have problems and you actually have to be their friend before dating them for it to work out right. I was happy that there is no ending where somebody particularly hates you, because then I would want to get the neutral ending every time. Overall a very interesting game that I have spent two hours on without all the dialogue. I myself am left wondering what triggers the emails. It seems oddly random to me. I would gladly have payed money for this, although being free makes it that much better! This game is making me hope for more from the producers.

This game is awesome!! and anna, I totally agree on the hotness of Travis :))

Cliched as it was, I squealed like a fangirl.

My favorite part (besides Hot!Travis):

Shiro = FionaWings

I just unlocked all the endings!! Yes, I used the walkthroughs on the game's site, but it was worth it :P .

I just wish

I had seen the poll for most popular character before they made the

bonus ending. I would have voted for Travis :)

Extremely cute game, kept me entertained for 6 hours this afternoon.

Also, I thought

Merui had the most chemistry with Shiro, even though Travis was my favorite.

I have uploaded a direct download of the game for Linux users, since the R'AA seems to be down right now.

Sharakin, thanks for the comment. I've had this game tested on a lot of different machines and that issue hasn't come up before, but I will look into it right away.

I downloaded this game last night, and I've completely finished the game :D Got all the endings/profiles/CG's... It was truly an awesome game. The different outcomes of the game were very interesting; Though it can get a little repetitive at some points, it never bored me. Really do recommend this game!

Gotta love Travis!! <333

Okay, beat the game a couple of times. Went to their website walkthrough to fully unlock everything, but I must be missing something(s).

I have unlocked all the "CG GALLERY" images/scenes for all of the guys, but when I enter the "Others" tab, I only have the first boss-battle image; the second image isn't unlocked :(

and

When I try to click the "BONUS?" tab under the "EXTRA" menu, nothing happens.

I assume that I haven't done something yet. Any suggestions/hints?
P.S. I dislike Derek for some odd reason :p

Anonime:
Have you gotten all the bonus endings? If you have, then the Bonus button should work -- which should also get you the extra CG =)

My guess is that people dislike Derek because Derek is the kind of guy who beats up the kinds of people who play Re:Alistair++, heh. And, of course, because he stole the protagonist's kill. Bah.

You can unlock the last CG and get the bonus if you have:

1. Shiro ending - with epilogue after creds.
2. Derek ending - with epilogue after creds.
3. Travis ending - with epilogue after creds.
4. ALONE ending (don't get with any of the guys, but guess correctly. You end up reporting Alistair).

After that, the bonus should be unlock. View it and the last CG will be, too.

Lovely lovely game. It's like a basket of kittens in a pink room next to a tray of cookies and milk. Travis is totally my favorite. Megane for the win! (I LOVED when he takes off his glasses. Favorite CG!

Well, at least I love Derek the most! He's outgoing and fun, my kind of a guy. :D Travis was also cool, Shiro is kind of boring though.

Ahhh I love this one! Glad JIG reviewed it!

Oh and yes count me as a Travis fangirl~ I can't count how many times I squealed throughout this game!

Well it sounds good, but I'm a bit confused. This is NOT a dating game right? I don't mind them (just get annoyed there mostly hentai aimed at men)..but one review on here said you date the guys? I thought this was a more of an investigation game? Based on the main review, it sounded like a fresh take on visual novels or games with the whole time management/ building up your stats gameplay commonly seen in actual dating games.

Aw, Shiro is SOOO adorable... :D

Why does everyone think Travis is hot? HE IS UGLY! I like Shiro best. Whatevs, later!

Here's how to get all the endings. I know the site has a walkthrough but this one's more specific.

Alistair has joined your team.
Love Derek, guess whoever you want.

Oda has joined your team.
Love Travis. Tell him about Ali. Guess Derek.

FionaWings has joined your team.
Love Shiro. Guess Derek.

Alistair has logged off.
Love no-one. Don't tell anyone about Ali. Guess Shiro or Derek.

Don't get mad get your enemies banned.
Don't love anyone. Don't tell about Ali. Guess Derek.

I'll be out of the majority here.
I love Derek unconditionally. x'D
2nd would be Shiro, then Travis. However, I don't dislike Travis. I guess I'm not into the megane-chars. :'p

It's a good game but I have a problem: I can only get travse and i want the other ones but it wont let me what should i do?

How did Shiro get online as FionaWings before Rui gets back online right after class with him (2nd Rivenwell Online encounter)? They can't just both rush into the computer room from the classroom, right?

I've always had a crazy soft spot for guys that look hot with glasses and hot without. So... Yeah. I'm a pretty huge Travis fangirl. He's so... *sighs dreamily* can't even describe it.

Anyway, on my very first try I got the ending that was like Alistair has logged off. I picked Shiro (for like ten minutes, I had this inward battle to pick either Shiro or Derek lol) then when I got that I was like, "DUDE! I TOTALLY KNEW IT WAS DEREK! Damn it! I'm such an idiot!"

Definitely a very entertaining game. Love the art too. ^.^

Get an average grade on your project (in other words, do work on it once in a while).

How often is once in a while?
Gotten all but the last picture on Travis suppose to need this last bit.

And the others picture how do you get that? First is automatic but the second one.
