Rooms: The Main Building is an upgraded full version of the Flash game Rooms released early last year. Created by HandMade Game, Rooms: The Main Building is a clever combination of puzzle and adventure elements. Bored with simple sliding puzzles, the main character receives a strange gift that transports him to another world. Here, rooms are broken into a series of spaces that can be moved around a grid like a sliding puzzle. Gather items to unlock more rooms as you search for puzzle pieces that lead the way out of this bizarre realm.

Everything in Rooms: The Main Building is mouse-driven, a somewhat welcome change from the Flash version's keyboard/mouse hybrid controls. Your goal is to move the character to the exit in each room by sliding squares to create a path. To slide a piece of a room, make sure your character is standing in it and move the mouse to an empty space. Arrows appear on the side where that piece can be moved; simply click one and off you go. Your character can walk from room to room provided there's a path that isn't blocked by a wall or other obstacle. You'll even encounter teleporters, wardrobes, hydrants and other elements that — well, I'll let you discover their uses on your own. Suffice it to say, Rooms only gets better and more interesting as you play!

The sliding room puzzles take place on the Room Board, a central map that connects much of the game. From here you'll take key items you find in treasure chests back to Rooms Street where more riddles wait to be solved. Here, side-view scenes function much like a classic adventure game where you click and navigate your way around rooms to gather clues to solve a specific puzzle. Items you find from the Rooms Board will be necessary to solve these puzzles, so they rarely pose much of a brain teaser.

A great bonus feature in Rooms: The Main Building is the ability to create and share custom, user-created levels. As you play through the game new elements are unlocked in the editor. Play with the building blocks to your heart's content, utilizing everything you've seen in the game however you see fit.

Analysis: When the Flash iteration of Rooms hit in early 2007, we were impressed with its intelligent design and fresh ideas. Rooms: The Main Building doesn't deviate from that great genre-crossing formula and improves on every aspect of the original, adding loads of extra rooms to solve, additional content, and smoothing over the rough edges at every corner. The visuals are much cleaner, the music and sound effects richer, and tons of small graphical effects (such as the screen shaking when you slide a room) make the entire experience smooth and enjoyable.

With a better presentation, more coherent gameplay, 80 new levels, and the ability to create and share puzzles, Rooms: The Main Building is everything you want it to be and much, much more.

Click on yourself to view inventory.
Select hammer, then Use on chest.
View inventory again, select crispy wood chip and give to chest.
View inventory and select hammer again. Use on chest again.
View inventory and select stinky wood chip. Use on chest.
Sleeping chest will spit out puzzle piece. Put in place and advance to Mansion 2.

Antique Shop

Make sure that you have in your inventory the magnifier, the candle, an unknown liquid, and the hammer before you enter the Antique Shop. If you are missing one, have a look in the trashcan by clicking on it. Click the item you need and it will go automatically into your inventory.
Go inside and smash all clocks with the hammer from your inventory
Look at them with the magnifier from your inventory
You will be told if you found something or not
Go up the stairs and to the right, use the white arrow to go to the left
side of the room.
Do the same with the stairs here, first upstairs, then go downstairs.
When you have a rusty gear and a rusty clock hand, go downstairs to the
machine at the right side.
Give the unknown liquid from your in the machine.
After this give the rusty gear and the rusty clock hand from your
inventory into the machine.
Light the machine with the candle.
Wait a moment, then pick up the now golden gear and clock hand.
Go back to the big stand clock left from the entrance.
Put the clock hand and the gear on that clock.
Pick up the last puzzle piece.

Subway

Use the electrical tape on the sparking traffic light
Now get the bulb out of your inventory and put it on the lights
Click the lights until they are green
Wait until the subways are gone, go downstairs and get the puzzle piece

Hysterical Mirror

When you mouse over the lower left part of your screen, the silhouette of a candelabra appears.
Use the candle from your inventory on it. Now you can see.
Use the broken mirror piece on the mirror.
Now use the candle to burn the spider webs.
Use the dirty rag on the bucket of water.
Use the now clean wet rag on the mirror .

does any one know what you are suppose to do once you gotten through mansions 1 and 2? i went back to try to open the sleeping chest but had tried once before and used my wood. i think it spit out a puzzle piece so i went back out to the street and can't find anything to do or find!!! please help

You have to finish the Mansion first. In the chests, you can open after finishing, you will get would, you have to give the sleeping chest. The crispy wood the chest will just eat. The fouly wood will make it spit out, whats inside

Unfortunately I just don't see the better presentation, just the same old things that bugged me in the Flash version, and now with added "bugs", one of which that allow you to cheat a little at any room.

Click the Show Bg button before the rooms are in place, and you can see the exact location of the rooms

So I'm not really impressed.

Go left to the hydrant and click it. Choose "pour water rightwards"

Now use the ladder to go down, get the fishbowl and click yourself to put it on. With the fishbowl you have no trouble to go into the rooms with water

hello,

i m stuck in mension II room 403. PLEASE HELP ME. i played it so many times and cant work it out.
i explode the bomb, did all in place but have problem with 2 cubes. the one with the word ROOMS with the ladder. The other cube is the phone that should be in the left side in the middle. i cannot get those 2 in place without move something else.

please help. i did mnesion III now and there is no where else to coninue and i think i need this room to be done.

I have worked through mansions 1 and 2. Got the puzzle piece, put it in, went back to the map on the side it says replay 1 then 3 then 2. I went through all rooms but can't get to mansion 3. How do you get there or what do I have to do? getting frustrated

Wake up the Sleeping Chest

Collect all the items from the chests.
Go to the street view and enter the Hotel Rooms (use gold key to unlock).
Go all the way left to the sleeping chest.
Click on yourself to view inventory.
Select hammer, then Use on chest.
View inventory again, select crispy wood chip and give to chest.
View inventory and select hammer again. Use on chest again.
View inventory and select stinky wood chip. Use on chest.
Sleeping chest will spit out puzzle piece. Put in place and advance to Mansion 2.

Antique Shop

Make sure that you have in your inventory the magnifier, the candle, an unknown liquid, and the hammer before you enter the Antique Shop. If you are missing one, have a look in the trashcan by clicking on it. Click the item you need and it will go automatically into your inventory.
Go inside and smash all clocks with the hammer from your inventory
Look at them with the magnifier from your inventory
You will be told if you found something or not
Go up the stairs and to the right, use the white arrow to go to the left
side of the room.
Do the same with the stairs here, first upstairs, then go downstairs.
When you have a rusty gear and a rusty clock hand, go downstairs to the
machine at the right side.
Give the unknown liquid from your in the machine.
After this give the rusty gear and the rusty clock hand from your
inventory into the machine.
Light the machine with the candle.
Wait a moment, then pick up the now golden gear and clock hand.
Go back to the big stand clock left from the entrance.
Put the clock hand and the gear on that clock.
Pick up the last puzzle piece.

Subway

Use the electrical tape on the sparking traffic light
Now get the bulb out of your inventory and put it on the lights
Click the lights until they are green
Wait until the subways are gone, go downstairs and get the puzzle piece

Hysterical Mirror

When you mouse over the lower left part of your screen, the silhouette of a candelabra appears.
Use the candle from your inventory on it. Now you can see.
Use the broken mirror piece on the mirror.
Now use the candle to burn the spider webs.
Use the dirty rag on the bucket of water.
Use the now clean wet rag on the mirror .

What's new is that I got new color. It is not white, not gold, it is more orange.

i want the solution that joins all the pictures together. isn't it one of the goals?

And you have one mistake which took me to time to understand.
On the 9th line from the bottom you wrote:
go ladder down
It is impossible because the way is blocked the only option is going up and not down, so I guess you meant up.

I did it !! I figured out level IV room 202 here it is

start where the man is standing, click on hydrant and move water to the room you are now in, quickly slide the square to the left and climb up one square.
now click on hydrant and move water to the right. You should be in the top left square with water to the room to the right and the very bottom left.
Now, go down one square, move water to where you are and run up the ladder.
Now all you do is teleport to the bottom left square, grab the key and you are in!!!

In the chests of Mansion 3 you find different things, like a piece of a mirror, a lever, a dirty rag.
When you have the lever, go to the Hotel Rooms, when you go up the stairs you will see a little dark spot at the wall. Put the lever there. Stairs will appear and you can enter the attic.
There you have to make the hysterical mirror happy

you'll find them in the shop, then just stand by the gizmo, click on each item, then use, then the gizmo and they will transfer. Hope this helps

To get to Mansion 3....

You need to fix the flickering light in the subway using the electrical tape. Then put in the new bulb. This makes the trains move so you can then pick up the jigsaw which opens up mansion 3.

Okay I admit it I'm finally stuck. Figured out the subway station and the rooms hotel in Rooms Street, and I have completed most of the mansion rooms but I can't find the blasted clock hand or gear to complete the Antiques Shop. Where are they? In a chest? I've got all the chests. Not in the trash can. Only have 3 maybe 4 rooms left to do and none of them have chests.
I must say this game has kept me occupied for 3 days now, whereas other games have only been good for a few hours exercise of the brain cells.

One of the goals is to complete the pictures are well as to make your way to the exit. So far, Mansion III, Room 203 ("SGB") is the only room I have encountered where I cannot complete the picture and reach the exit.

I wonder if this is a bug?? Can anyone check this out?

About the missing clock parts... a hint then a solution...
Hint:

Notice all of the other clocks around? Wonder what's inside of them?

Solution:

Take the stubby hammer and break open all of the clocks you can find. Then, look inside of them with the magnifying glass from one of the chests. Then the alchemy lab on the next part of the 2nd floor will help you further...

Going with the walkthrough, two of the cubes are in the wrong position.

For example, the one with something that looks like stairs in it has to go to the bottom right.

Kayleigh: Is that the same as the one in your walkthrough? it gets you out the exit but is not a completed picture... I'm playing in Challenge mode now, and the picture MUST be perfect in order to move onto the next level.

I had the rag and put it in the bucket to wet it. I then replaced the broken piece of mirror. I tried putting my wet rag in the trash can to hold it there a minute, and now it is gone. I've burned the spider webs, but now have NO rag to wipe the dust! I've looked everywhere for the rag, and a part from starting the game over, I don't know what to do? Why didn't the trash can keep my wet rag for me?
Any help or suggestions? PLEASE? Thank you!

I keep dabbing with the "wet rag" but the mirror is not getting cleaned...and I cannot advance....I keep repositioning the rag. I have burned the webs, tried moving the character to right and to left and nothing is working...is there something I am missing here? How do you "clean" the mirror?

This is a great game! however, I am stuck in Mansion II Room 305. I'm good up to step #15. I cannot leave the room (exit FAST to the right)as my guy won't open the door and walk through. I've tried doubling my steps and opening the door with the key first, walking through and then going back to the room and pumping the water, but he just won't open the door. Any thoughts or hints on how to get him to exit? I've run this room about 20 times with no luck.

Did you look at the walkthrough for the chest at the top of the comments here? If you follow all the steps, the chest will spit out the puzzle piece.

Yes, I did read the walkthrough. But that solution is only good if you haven't already fed your chips to the chest. I had already fed my chips to the chest, but never used the hammer until I had already got through mansion III and read this walkthrough. Then I realized that I might have done things wrong and perhaps this is why the chest won't spit out the puzzle piece. It keeps telling me it's hungry, but I don't have any more chests to open. There were only two chests with wood chips in them and I fed those to the chest way back when I was still in mansion I. Now I'm in mansion III and it seems too late to just hit the chest with the hammer. I've opened every single chest from all three mansions. Do I need to completely replay the game from the beginning and feed the chest, then hit it with the hammer, then feed & hit again in order to get the puzzle piece? Or is there some way to get the chest to still spit out the puzzle piece without me having to start all over again? I've beat the living crap out of it with the hammer ever since I read the walkthrough here, but to no avail. It still just says it's hungry...no puzzle piece for me.

Is there any hope without starting completely over?

Did you double check to see if the wood chips are in your trash can? When I played that part, it wouldn't actually keep the chips unless I did it exactly right. If they aren't in your inventory or in your trash can, I have no idea how to get them back again. :(

I'm currently doing the challenge mode and I'm stuck on mansion 3 room 405. The walk through that someone posted for it was a great help in the normal mode, but there are too many moves for challenge mode. Has anyone been able to do it? It's the last room I have to do.

Nope, the chips are gone. I guess I'm screwed. Gonna have to start all over again. That's just wrong! They should have made this game in such a way that one could recover from a faux pax like this. I'm very disappointed.

The posted guide for Mansion 2, Room 204 is just ONE step short of a (picture perfect) golden room.

Golden Solution for Mansion 2, Room 204

1. Shift room right.

2. Climb ladder upward.

3. Walk left.

4. Shift room down, then shift down again.

5. Walk right.

6. Swap room with red upper symbol.

7. Climb ladder up.

8. Swap room with blue lower symbol.

9. Climb ladder up.

10. Shift room left, then shift down.

11. Walk right.

12. Shift room up.

13. Climb ladder up, but...

14. DO NOT EXIT!
Walk left by clicking on bottom-left corner of exit square.
Do NOT exit.

15. Shift room down. Exit.

This is the same set of instructions given, but with the added ONE line of missing instructions that would let you win the room with a gold score. :P

The walkthrough says the room is incomplete which surprised me since it's so simple. I followed...I hope the walkthrough gets updated. It's very similar to the original walkthrough with just a few minor adjustments.

how do I open Mansion 3 - i've done all the rooms in 1 except locked 305 and in 2 except 305 405 and 406 which are locked.
I've opened all the chests - used the electric tape and bulb in the subway but still can't get at the puzzle piece.

I have completed mansion 3 room 404 I have tried waking the chest I fed the wood when I got the first piece if puzzle I cant find the 3rd piece of wood I've used the hammer with know effect please can someone help

There are only two pieces of wood: the stinky piece and the crispy piece. Check the walkthrough at the top of the page for instructions on how to use the pieces of wood and the hammer. If you follow those instructions exactly, it should work fine.

I have completed Mansion I,II,III
& can't get into the Antique Shop none of the keys that I have fit the door. do I need to complete Mansion 4. to get the key for the shop.

After finishing Mansion III you have to go back to the Hotel Street and enter the Hotel a second time.
You will have access to the Antique Shop after finishing Mansion IV

I'll apologize in advance if I'm wrong, but the spoiler for Mansion III, room 204 seems to be wrong. I follow it step-by-step until #14--at which point you can NOT go up the ladder because you've just moved the room to the top row. You can go left and use the teleporter and from there you can get yourself to the exit with a few more moves, but not with the picture complete. Can anyone help me?

You've probably solved the puzzle already, but indeed the instruction seemed a bit screwy after step 13 like you said, you can't go 'up' the ladder after you moved that room upward.

Here's what I did to complete the picture:

14. WALK LEFT to the next room (which is upper teleport rm) and teleport.

15. Walk right and move room up.

16. Use ladder to climb up and teleport again.

17. Move room right and unlock door.

I'm rather proud of myself for solving all of the puzzles on my own, although it took a couple of tries in the difficult lvls in mansions 3 and 4. The hardest 'mirror' level was such a pain too, but it got easier after I solved most of the puzzles in mansion 3&4 first, so that helped a lot. If you're stuck, just move onto a harder puzzle and try to work your way through, then go back to try easier one again is my advice.

The walkthrough for mansion 2 room 402 is missing some info for Gold status.
After line #14, go right.
Move room up, move room left, move room up.
Delete line #15, everything else is fine.

I have read all the info here and don't see anything about my problem so...hope someone can help me.
Just got this game and sure do like it.
Anyway.problem one is RE: antique shop.I don't have the unknown liquid..haven't got it yet and am in mansion 4..rm 301. I only have ability to spin once..need to fix gizmo..need liquid, have all rest
my other question is the tiny clock high on shelf in shop..am unable to reach it..hammer doesn't work as is too high..any help would be much appreciated..and thanks again Jay and all you wonderful folks for all your help..invaluable

Help Please I have gotten to Mansion III and all of the rooms but the ones that are locked.Now what I can not go away where else now. I have the keys, hammer, candle, rags, levler, rag and piece of mirror. What have I done wrong? Also I have tried to register on this site and keep getting a URL error.

Need to find the electric bulb for the subway! I've finished Mansion II room 205, and so can't keep going until I fix subway, since the next room involves subways.

So can anyone tell me? Did I miss it somewhere? Can I actually keep going without fixing the subway?
