T2B Escape

Weekday Escape

JessI hope you all enjoyed long weekends, and that the return to work/school/saving the world isn't too much of a drag. In case it is, however, here's a nice little diversion to break up your work week.

t2bescape.jpgWe overlooked T2B Escape when it first came out, but happily caught it this time around while searching for more quality escape-the-room games for this week's column. I'm so glad I did! T2B is good-looking, clever and impressively well-designed, easily a cut or two above most others of its kind.

The premise of the game isn't anything spectacularly new or creative; once more you find yourself locked in a mysterious room, guided only by your wits. It is, however, a pretty nice room; the graphics, while minimalist, are well-designed, and at times even border on photorealism. Even better, T2B has two or three puzzles that genuinely made me chuckle with delight upon solving them, which to me is a significant part of the pleasure in playing such games.

My main gripe with T2B is that it is rife with my personal pet peeve, pixel-hunting. A few times I was tempted to bang my head into a wall, not because the game was excessively difficult but because I couldn't find the exact square half-centimeter area to click. This, however, is really my only main complaint in what is otherwise a very good, straightforward escape game; T2B is most definitely worth your time.

Enjoy a brief respite from reality:

Have you found the

gold coin

yet? It's

on the table, under the cup.

Look for a place you can use it. I'm stuck there, even though I _think_ I know what to do. I must be missing something.

I've got 6 boards (half paperclip, bird, half circle 1, half circle 2, snake, hawk), nippers, pitcher full of water, two memos (one with musical notes, the other with RGB colors listed but missing pieces), a long stick, and a wooden stick (that I know where to use).

Anyone find which notes to play under the table, after using the coin? Or open the fridge, the box by the couch, or the glass cabinet doors?

I'm even more stuck! What did you do with the long stick?

In regards to the other step you figured out:

It seems to activate the glasses as a code-entry thing of sorts. But I think we have to first fill the cups with water. If I could only get the faucet to work...

A (potential) deciphering of the "color" memo:

R G B
Blue 0 0 255
Red 255 0 0
Green 0 255 0
Cyan 0 255 255
Magenta 255 0 255
White 255 255 255
Yellow 255 255 0

Not 100% sure on White, as that's the completely blacked out one... that's the only option left, though.

I have found two other items that you haven't yet Upaut, at least from your list. :)

magnifying glass w/out lens and an iron stick

@drewdee: The nippers are

in the left drawer of the glass cabinet. You can open it from the left side, with the right object.

As for how I've been finding the boards, I just kept clicking around and finding them by sheer accident.

The faucet

needs a handle, which can be made from two iron pieces. The first one you should be able to find easily. The second one is in the right desk drawer. Combine them, and you'll have your handle.

It seems a little farther than most of you, but I've run into a road block. These are my most recent steps:

Used the long stick to get the magnifying glass above the sink.

After watering the pot behind the fridge and getting the red key (click around a screen or two and go back to get the key) the magnifying lens is in the box by the couch.

Using the magnifying glass on the picture above the desk gives the musical code for the glasses under the table. This opens the fridge.

And now I'm stuck again! Anyone have any ideas?

You fill up the pitcher of water and fill up the glasses under the table, then use the magnifying glass on the picture and write down what you see, then look at the memo with the notes on it.
The memo shows what the glasses of water sound/look like, if you hit the in the order the painting reveals, all the lights will turn green and something happens!

I'm not sure what, but when this happened I had to let you guys know since you helped me through some toughies on this game. :)

Number 20823 to escape reporting in. Thanks for all the hints posted here. I like these room escape games, but I'm not that good at them and this one was somewhat nuts. I think the biggest pixel hunt for me was

figuring out how to get under the desk.

I doubt I could have done it without help. And I agree that it would have been nice to have something like

a calendar in the room somewhere as a hint for the board puzzle.

The game is very pretty and the puzzles aren't bad, but the pixel hunting was terrible. I enjoy figuring out puzzles in escape games. I also enjoy logical thinking about where to click, where things might hide, but when I'm randomly clicking every tiny spot in attempts of hitting the EXACT area the game is no longer enjoyable for me. Even after following the well-written walkthrough when I got stuck in a couple spots, it was still almost impossible to find the correct pixel area. Too frustrating, and that's a shame since the puzzles themselves are fine. :(

HINTED WALKTHROUGH

I really enjoyed this one. I liked the puzzles but found the pixel picking a bit tedious in a few places.

I've never tried this before, but I thought I'd give a hinted walkthrough. Hope it works.

We'll start with the grand tour and then go where the spirit takes us.

1. Couch Scene.

Duck down and take a good look at the couch.

There are a couple of things to find here.

One below.

One between.

You should have a wooden board(1) and an iron stick.

It doesn't hurt to look around.

Take a look at the plant.

In and around.

You should have another wooden board(2) and a pitcher.

The pitcher is behind the plant. Try clicking the top left side.

What is essential may not be seen with the eye (at first).

Clicking on the lamp will reveal a safe to the right of the couch. Just realize that it is here for now.

2. Desk and Fridge Scene.
Note: there is some tricky clicking required here.

Starting with the desk...
Where would you start looking?

The left drawer will reveal a wooden board.(3)

You can't open the right drawer yet.

To find out why, look at it from another point of view.

From the overhead point of view, clicking to the right of the chair gives the view from below...
weird and awkward but true.

At this point you can't do anything about that, but keep it in mind for later.

Also take a look at the cup on the desk.

From different points of view.

You should find a wooden stick inside. (click the top)

You should find a coin beneath. (Click the bottom)

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

There should be a wooden board(4) inside.

Surprise: keep looking!

Looking from above the trashcan, click on the leg of the desk.

There is a memo here.

The painting and the fridge will be of value later.

There is one more thing.

Beside the fridge.

It is hard to click on but can be seen if you click in the corner of the shadow.

I wonder what you would do with a flower pot. This, too, is for later.

3. The Door

Of course you can't open it now.

However, it can prove useful. Yes, right now.

Three friends traveling three roads would want to meet.

A long stick can be found at the bottom of the three lines.

4. Sink and White Cabinet

The sink:

The sink is not terribly useful right now and yet...

This part is pretty tricky. Really hunt around.

Take a close look.

And carry a big stick.

Clicking above the faucet on the close up will cause you to up and reveal a magnifying glass (sort of) which you can reach with the long stick.

The cabinet:

Try the usual suspects.

At the moment, only the right drawer can be opened. It will offer a wooden board(5). Note: the angle is a bit weird to open this.

From this strange angle you can also look a bit more.

To the left...

The the left of the left drawer there is another wooden board(6) and a small hole.

What would fit in the small hole?

Perhaps a wooden stick. What did you hear?

Go back to the front and you can now open the left drawer and get a pair of nippers.

Step back and admire your work.

Clicking from a different point of view.

Clicking below the drawers will give you a view underneath and will reveal another memo.

5. Going where the spirit takes us.

Note: the first spoiler of each section will tell you what object is dealt with.

What could you use those nippers for?

Something was held...

Back to the desk.

Clipping the wire holding the drawer shut.

Click right drawer, just to the right of the chair, then clip.

Stand up and open the drawer which will offer and iron part.

Hmmm... what could the iron part be used for.

I seem to remember a sink that wouldn't work.

How's your plumbing skills?

For this to work we need something else too.

With the knob-like iron piece enlarged, use the iron stick. You will need to click several times before a hole appears and the part slips in.

Attach to sink.

You will notice a small hole on the side of the faucet. Try there.

We have water! What to do with that?

Of course we need to carry it there first.

Try the pitcher.

A flower pot...

... hidden beside the fridge.

Once you add water, give it time to do something.

Look away, then come back and a red key will await you on top of the sprout.

What to open with the red key....?

There are several locked things, but the safe is the one that fits...

...the safe hidden beside the couch.

a lens.

What could the lens be used for?

So that's why it didn't work....

The lens goes in the magnifying glass.

6. The Elephant in the Middle of the Room

Well, actually it's not an elephant, it's a table.

It's a bit hard to click on.

Face the door and then click on the table.

Anything interesting?

I really like this part.

Let's try using some of the things we have.

The glasses can be filled with water. I think we still have some in the pitcher.

Interesting they go to different levels.

I seem to remember a high school experiment.

Try tapping on the glasses.

Try the wooden stick.

Lovely, eh?

What about that slot above?

What would fit?

The coin.

Try tapping again.

The lights light up...perhaps we need a certain song to give the right code....

Note: It might be time to take a look at those memos if you have not already done so and let them mull around in your mind.

7. Going where the spirit takes us. (Part 2)

So now what about that magnifying glass.

What hasn't been used yet?

How about the picture?

Click on the magnifying glass and drag it over the picture.

Where have you seen those squares before?

Try decoding with a memo.

The code is 13524678 or CEGDFABC (for those with musical background).

Try out the tune.

When you play it on the table chimes you hear something open... search around...

The fridge.

Wooden board(7).

Another puzzle.

The fridge puzzle.

What happens when you press a button?

Where have I seen those colours before?

The painting.

What is the difference between the objects in blue and those in pink?

If I had a mirror...

Yes, pink symbols are mirror images in vertically. Left and right side.

Now try the puzzle.

1,2,4,7,9,10,16 (left to right, top to bottom)

a yellow key.

And what would you use a yellow key for?

Finally, the cabinet. I've been wanting that open for a long time now. It's hard when you can see but not touch.

The green book: some kind of code.

The top shelf: a puzzle.

The top shelf puzzle.

Think about the shapes.

A lot like wooden boards.

But how to tell one from the other?

Take a closer look.

The tricky clicky...

Clicking on the right bottom corner will reveal a symbol on each.

Where have you seen those before.

Yes the green book.

Can you guess a pattern that fits and has two doubles?

MTWTFSS - making sure to keep T1, T2, S1 and S2 straight.

The days of the week.

What was that sound?

If it dropped from the top shelf....

Look among the tea cups on the shelf below.

a blue key...

What could the blue key be for?

Another puzzle... on the shelf below.

Remember the memo.

The buttons will change to different colours if you click on them multiple times.

How's your colour mixing.

blue red green cyan magenta white yellow black, starting with the dot and moving clockwise towards the arrow. Then press the centre.

A green key.

And what could we use a green key for?

It matches...

Congratulations you made it!!

Well i didn't really like this one:
1. The engrish was confusing at times.

2. The sound tones of the water glasses was incorrectly reversed (an empty glass gives a low tone).

3. Graphic design flaw.. You couldn't see that the magnifying glass had no lens to begin with.

This game is a picture perfect example of how NOT to make pixel hunting.

I don't mind pixel hunting. Make the hot spot just one pixel. Or make it a quarter of the pixel big. But when I have to play "guess the perspective" together with pixel hunting things get beyond annoying.

Case in point - I want to check out the left side of the cabinet. I bust my finger on the left side, nothing. I click near the cabinet I suddenly get the bottom view. Still no left side. I zoom in on the cabinet, click the left side, nothing. I give up, check out the walkthrough.. and it seems I have to zoom on the DRAWERS, and only on THAT PARTICULAR VIEW am I allowed to check the "left side". Aaaaargh!

For anyone who doesn't understand the Fridge Puzzle, READ THIS!!!

The blue and pink symbols on the painting are there as a guide, not necessarily because those symbols are on the fridge puzzle board. The difference between the blue and pink symbols is that the PINK SYMBOLS are symbols that are MIRROR IMAGES OF THEMSELVES. NOT mirror images of images on the fridge puzzle board! So what you have to do when you are looking at the fridge puzzle board is turn the images that are MIRROR IMAGES OF THEMSELVES pink!

I refused to just solve the puzzle using walkthrus and stared at it for probably half an hour before I finally understood! I hope this is helpful to anyone else who is confused!
