Room escape game lovers are in for a treat as Taro Ito weighs-in with his rendition of the point-and-click art form popularized by such games as MOTAS and the Viridian Room.
Escape game is a simple and effective game of its genre with all the usual mechanics, but without the pixel hunting that often accompanies games like this. Use your best clicking finger to find items, combine items in your inventory, and to solve the few puzzles that await. While most puzzles are straightforward, you will have to think outside the box with at least one of them.
Altogether a short game, but a rewarding one if you can figure out the one difficult twist yourself. It's not too difficult to figure out on ones own, though. The entire game will take you approximately 30-45 minutes. Play Escape game.

this game is cool but im kind of stuck
Wow, quite a tricky game. Ive already hit a dead end. Found 2 keys, six balls, a paper, and two cards. Hope i wont have to go pixel hunting. >.<
"Kind of stuck" gives us no idea how to help, Chris. Just an FYI. ;)
Meepo - as I said, there is absolutely no pixel hunting in this game. You are missing a few items, though. ;)
ive got the same stuff but cant figure out what to do with the balls it seems that they could go into the picture over the futon but nothing happens when i put them in
have you tried

I'm really stuck!

I absolutely cannot figure out the computer puzzle. If anyone knows the solution, let me know, otherwise I'm going to have to quit the game.
Fun game! :)
Completed in 21 min.

I might have missed something, but I think that's all. Everything else seemed fairly straightforward
WANT SOME HELP WITH THAT NOTE? I found this little bit with the note and comppy!! HAHAHA!!! I win.

Yay meh!!I just wasted 4 minutes!
[Edit: More like 40. :p -Jay]
DONE!!! since i've nothing better to do, i'll post a walkthrough

Congratulations!! You are out!
ARGH! Got the door open, but it doesn't end the game or anything, I can't seem to walk out.
Xadoc - thank you so much for the walkthrough! The only thing I got stuck on was the key 3-digit code, and the wood ball found on step five. Step five confused me a bit, but I got it. ^^ Thanks so much!
Awww....I'm gettin picked on :(
I shaved 2 minutes off meh time too :p
Well, Kenny, as with any of these games that measure the length of time you spend playing, the only time that has any significance at all is your first time through (without help or a walkthrough).
....
Let's just forget about meh first time through eh?
Even if if it was somethin like....I don't know, 30 minutes...
xD
hehehe, that's more like it. ;)
ONLY TOOK ME 10 MINUTES!!
for those of you stuck on the DUCKS:

hope i could help!!!!!!
ps. jay, i totally <3 your games!
Nice game with creative use of the items I haven't seen in a long while.
The game was not hard but not evident - i had to resort to the walkthru at one place - with the hint on the paper collected.
Good effort.
ok i've got most of the stuff...but i dont know how to use the keys...i know it sound dumb right?
Great game I really enjoyed it!
I like the hand pointer popping up when you are on to something, it gives you the fun of a search without the frustration of pixel hunting.
And I feel that I am being congratulated FOR wasting time, so my 55 minutes is a resounding victory! First! ~ uh ~ I mean ~ Slowest!
I have also learned a valuable lesson from reading tonight's comments:
One man's duck is another man's monkey!
i did it in 31 minutes yet another i did not need any help, i thought this one was really good, yeah baby
so i'm stuck at the part where

The thing with the keys was genius!
The thing with the punched cards was pretty good, too. ;)
Taro Ito rarely disappoints with the games he designs.
One tiny remark: it should somehow be pointed out right in the beginning that you won't be able to USE the collected itmes in the way you usually do in P-N-C games: that yopu click on them or drag them to the desired spot. That once you have an item, at the place where it should be used it will be used automatically. I spent most of my time trying to find where the key I got can be used - and, most of all, how it can be used. I tried to drag it, to click on it, everything. Little did i know that I shouldn't do anything, it's automatically used...
But that's really a minor point and the game is fun the way it is.
I wasted only 17 mins, all I needed help with was

i cant solve the pattern from the note on the computer
pls help, i tried nearly everything but those kinds of puzzles make me crazy :)
Picture link and "Play Escape game" link aren't working for me. Dunno if anyone else is getting the same problem.
The "Escape game" link is fine though. Sooooo here goes.
Cheers for the tip about using objects bioLarzen. I wasted 12 mins, not bad eh?
There is NO way to make the

makes it even worse. I don't need to feel this stupid and frustrated on a nice Sunday morning.
I give up.
Marian -
Yes I was running screaming for the walkthrough when I needed to solve the computer / paper puzzle, that is the leap of logic jay spoke of in the intro and I too fell in to the chasm like Evil Knevil when trying to make that leap!
Also the use of the items being different than most games threw me a bit, had to consult a hint on that too. Don't give up! If you've spent a half hour you still have 25 minutes to go to beat my 55 minutes record!
;-p
Marian,
Hope this will help (if you haven't totally given up already), to be honest I couldn't figure this out, and was stuck forevers.

Marian -

Now the real puzzle... Duck or Monkey?!?!
Great little game. I have been off the whole point and click so this was a nice warm up. Just needed the walk through to confirm my thoughts.
I came back because...
I just couldn't let it go...I had to figure it out.
Thank you for the kind and helpful hints. :)
I didn't realize how close to the finish I was. It told me that I wasted 10 minutes. But that isn't really correct. Because I accidentally closed the game window 3 times. So it probably adds up to about 6 hours.
I love this place!
Wow, Marian, I'm sorry you found the walkthrough so unhelpful on that point.
I was just stoked to have finished the game and wanted to type up a walkthrough before anyone else beat me to it (and Eric was only 34 minutes behind me).
it is difficult to write concise instructions that everyone reads and understands in the same way. I guess that's why people get frustrated with instruction manuals - they make sense to the people writing them...
anyway, I can't edit the walkthrough, but maybe Jay can?
I'd be happy for point 13 to be replaced by:

Hope that's clearer?
[Edit: done. -Jay]
I tried it how much time it takes to complete the game with all the knowledge there is to have - right now my record is 2 minutes - but that could be better i gues if i had an actual strategy on the white dot puzzle :)
I guess something should be done with the walkthrus. I mean, some of us - including, sadly, me - seem to make it a matter of pride to be the first ones to send in a walkthru. And that usually means hurry. And a walkthru written in a hurry is seldom the best one... My two walkthrus had mistakes, not few... And one word is enough. Writing left instead of right, green instead of blue, etc...
I don't know what could possibly be done about that (besides us not rushing with the walkthrus...), just thought I'd bring up the point.
The right drawr won't open for me D:
yay, me!
all the way through, no walkthough, no hints!
The stoopid spell has been broken (at least for this game!)
i like how they make you think outside the box on what to do with the items.....they could have thought up a better name though ^^
bioLarzen, here's the simplest way to beat the white dot puzzle:

☻ ☺ ☻ ☻
☻ ☻ ☻ ☺
☺ ☻ ☻ ☻
☻ ☻ ☺ ☻
Easy as pie!
[Edit: fixed. -Jay]
And... that didn't end up looking like it did in the preview. Here's an explanation:

Neddo... your comment looks great on the help squad but not to good here... i dont get it... peace
wow... that was fast
Jay is Awesome!!!
Now this is the kind of game I like - one with no pixel hunting at all. Of course, I have quite enjoyed the other games but I would frequently have to look up where to find an object (Daymare Town comes to mind). But this one is just clever puzzles. Eeeexcellent.
Time wasted: 11 minutes.
Thx, Neddo.
OK, now it's official: it's possible (with Neddo's help) to beat the game in 1 minute :) More exactly 57 seconds :))
OK, I know it's a stupid idea to make a rush of this game, just wantes to know if it's possible :)
To xadoc
Your walk through was fine and it made sense when I came back.

So don't stop writing walk throughs because of a logic retard like me.
Even though the game said I wasted 14 minutes, I couldn't help but feel bad. Definitely, if the tab key had been disabled, then it would've been at least a half-hour more. I hope he doesn't forget the "tabbers" like me who usually try using the tab key when they're stuck.
Still a good game though.
I ended up slamming my head against the paper in the wrong place; then I got the last wooden ball. After that, I expected something to happen with the computer for a while.
Eleven minutes and one hint are usually better than my first attempt at such games, but then again, this one's kinda short. I'm glad I could figure the way out of that office.
wow, this was definitely one of the very best room escapes i've done, and i've done a LOT!! the puzzles were very creative, but definitely not beyond the scope of common logic.
Hee hee - I like the picture he used for this game in the best-of competition. Go look at it if you've beaten it, but if you haven't you will probably just be upset.
tip number 13 IS NOT RIGHT I REPEAT NOT RIGHT DO AS THE PAPER FOLLOWS IN THE CIRCLES IT'S NAT 2 INTHE FIRST COLUM AND 2 IN THE THIRD COLLUM DO IT THE WAY THE PAPER IS TOLD
Cool, I wasted 17 minutes! Escape-the-room games FTL
So this might sound stupid, but I can't use the key... It says I can drag it around which is fine and all, but only within that box. It won't open anything! I've tried following the walkthroughs, but it still won't work. Help!
i can't open the right middle drawer...
Ok, i need help on the 14th step on the walkthrough. I've tried everything and whenever i put those little balls in the wall above the sofa, nothing happens. Can someone please help me?
in order to open the right middle door, you need to go in the far right cabinet door click on the monkey thing and wait for like 10 seconds and a key will come out and after you get that key, try to open it.

My gosh!
ITS BRILLIANT!
yay! I'm not stupid!
13 minits is a good time, isn't it?
Dang, the whole "revisiting puzzles" gimmick is a unique concept, and I kind of like it. This is definitely one of the better escape games. Usually, in room escape games, you finish one puzzle and you're done with that area of the room, whereas with this one, there's actually a reward to go back to one puzzle again,

I really love this site. Thanks Jay.
Can somebody please explain the last puzzle?
I just don't see how can you get the last set of code by aligning the keys...
about the final step:

A clear way of solving computer puzzle number one:

O X O O
O O O X
X O O O
O O X O
or
O O X O
X O O O
O O O X
O X O O
(I used the second)
And THANK YOU for the walkthrough!!!!!!!!!
This was the awesomeist game ever!!!! WHOOT!!! (which is , in fact, a word.) I got half way though it and got a little stuck, so I snook a peak at the walk though, but then I got the rest of it "almost" all by my self!!!!!!!
did it in...

I did it all, got the door open, but now i cant get out of the door hahaha
I need help with finding the second duck and with step number 8.
ha it only took me 2 minutes
i did it once with the walkthrough (major thanks)
then i went back later and did it again 2 minutes whooo
i did it in two mins, go me!
I need HELP!!!??? I did the computer Puzzle with 2 in the first row 3 in the second and 2 in the fourth and typed it in to the puzzle on the wall above the couch and I can not find the place to put the second key card???? PLEASE HELP????!!!!!
Tanks So Much
