JayGamedesign Escape gameRoom escape game lovers are in for a treat as Taro Ito weighs-in with his rendition of the point-and-click art form popularized by such games as MOTAS and the Viridian Room.

Escape game is a simple and effective game of its genre with all the usual mechanics, but without the pixel hunting that often accompanies games like this. Use your best clicking finger to find items, combine items in your inventory, and to solve the few puzzles that await. While most puzzles are straightforward, you will have to think outside the box with at least one of them.

Altogether a short game, but a rewarding one if you can figure out the one difficult twist yourself. It's not too difficult to figure out on ones own, though. The entire game will take you approximately 30-45 minutes.

Random - the cards can be used with each other, though I have no clue what to do with the result.

Has anyone tried getting the computer to match the diagram? I've tried, but just can't find a sequence of moves that works.

The cards

I found to be a bit of a red herring because

that's not the number you're looking for.

The slip of paper

should remind you of more than just the picture above the futon.

It's not directly instructions for the picture.

BIG hint for the final hurdle:

Found just a closet? There's more to the "dragging items" interface than just the cards

I might have missed something, but I think that's all. Everything else seemed fairly straightforward

DONE!!! since i've nothing better to do, i'll post a walkthrough

To start, look underneath the doormat and find a card. You'll need this later

Turn right and collect 2 out of 7 wooden balls:one under the sofa and the other is the furthest of the balls on the coat rack

Turn right again and click on the monkey. Punch it and get the key

Use this key on the left drawer on this desk to get another wooden ball

Open the right drawer to find another monkey. Punch it, wait a few seconds, and grab the key that comes out

Use this key on the right side drawer to get another ball

look under this desk to get the last ball from this side

Turn right and click on the bottom drawer to get the 6th ball

solve the puzzle to get another card

the easiest way to do this is to click on one of the bottom pieces then click on the space that fits the same space as the first space you chose if you rotate it

click on the clock and on the ball where the 12 would be to get the final ball

Turn left and click on the faces. Click on the left mouth to insert one of the cards to get a key out of the right side

Go right and use the key on the locked drawer to get a paper

Remember the computer? Click on the circled spaces in the note to get the password for the safe

Go to the screen with the safe and insert the wooden balls in the pattern from the computer, then click on the bottom slot to scan the other card and get the last key

Use the key on the box by the door and open it.

The code is hidden in those cards you got. Click on the cards and drag one over the other to get the code. For those who want to find this code for themselves, don't click the next spoiler

631

Oh, no! It's a dead end! But wait! There's another code in the keys. Select the keys and move them around until you find a number. Again, don't open the next spoiler if you want to find the answer for yourself.

235

Congratulations!! You are out!

One tiny remark: it should somehow be pointed out right in the beginning that you won't be able to USE the collected itmes in the way you usually do in P-N-C games: that yopu click on them or drag them to the desired spot. That once you have an item, at the place where it should be used it will be used automatically. I spent most of my time trying to find where the key I got can be used - and, most of all, how it can be used. I tried to drag it, to click on it, everything. Little did i know that I shouldn't do anything, it's automatically used...

But that's really a minor point and the game is fun the way it is.

There is NO way to make the

note "work" or "do" or "show" anything on the computer.

30 minutes is too long to get this frustrated. I am trying not to use the walkthrough. I had 3 keys, 7 balls, 2 cards, and a god blessed piece of paper. However, the "help" given on how to

use the paper with the computer

makes no sense at all:

The slip of paper
should remind you of more than just the picture above the futon.
It's not directly instructions for the picture.
OR
Click on computer. Enter code from paper using white spheres. This will create a pattern. Remember it.
*****I have tried to make the white circle appear in the pattern on the god blessed piece of paper and it can not be done. *** CODE?? what code? If you look at the paper there are 16 squares. 2, 5, 7, 11, 16 from left to right have a white circle. But if that is the CODE --- where do you put it??? There is NO keyboard. I have "placed" the paper over the screen of the computer and clicked on the white circles but that does nothing. It says I can move the paper around what ever good that does.

makes it even worse. I don't need to feel this stupid and frustrated on a nice Sunday morning.

I give up.

Yes I was running screaming for the walkthrough when I needed to solve the computer / paper puzzle, that is the leap of logic jay spoke of in the intro and I too fell in to the chasm like Evil Knevil when trying to make that leap!

Also the use of the items being different than most games threw me a bit, had to consult a hint on that too. Don't give up! If you've spent a half hour you still have 25 minutes to go to beat my 55 minutes record!
;-p

Marian,

Hope this will help (if you haven't totally given up already), to be honest I couldn't figure this out, and was stuck forevers.

The dots on the sheet of paper correspond to the computer, you don't have to recreate this pattern on the computer, just click the same dots that are circled on the sheet (in any order)
Once you have clicked those dots you should see a pattern of 7 white dots. This is the pattern you have to recreate on the wall puzzle with the orange dots.

I didn't realize how close to the finish I was. It told me that I wasted 10 minutes. But that isn't really correct. Because I accidentally closed the game window 3 times. So it probably adds up to about 6 hours.

Wow, Marian, I'm sorry you found the walkthrough so unhelpful on that point.

I was just stoked to have finished the game and wanted to type up a walkthrough before anyone else beat me to it (and Eric was only 34 minutes behind me).

it is difficult to write concise instructions that everyone reads and understands in the same way. I guess that's why people get frustrated with instruction manuals - they make sense to the people writing them...

anyway, I can't edit the walkthrough, but maybe Jay can?

I'd be happy for point 13 to be replaced by:

Click on computer. Click spaces on screen indicated by circles on the paper (it doesn't matter in which order you click them). When all relevant spaces have been clicked this should result in a pattern of 7 white spheres - 2 in the first column, 3 in the second column and 2 in the fourth column. Remember this pattern.

Hope that's clearer?

I guess something should be done with the walkthrus. I mean, some of us - including, sadly, me - seem to make it a matter of pride to be the first ones to send in a walkthru. And that usually means hurry. And a walkthru written in a hurry is seldom the best one... My two walkthrus had mistakes, not few... And one word is enough. Writing left instead of right, green instead of blue, etc...

I don't know what could possibly be done about that (besides us not rushing with the walkthrus...), just thought I'd bring up the point.

Your walk through was fine and it made sense when I came back.

It was my brain not wrapping around the computer game. I am ashamed to admit that I actually played it correctly once but didn't realize that I had 7 little balls left. I was trying to make the white balls on the computer look like the white ball pattern on the paper and that didn't work. And so the frustration mounted and I clothed myself in sack cloth and cursed logic. :)

So don't stop writing walk throughs because of a logic retard like me.

Dang, the whole "revisiting puzzles" gimmick is a unique concept, and I kind of like it. This is definitely one of the better escape games. Usually, in room escape games, you finish one puzzle and you're done with that area of the room, whereas with this one, there's actually a reward to go back to one puzzle again,

in this case, the circles on the computer, and the keypad by the door,

and it's kind of neat, as it actually rewards the frustrating action of going back to each puzzle and hoping it does something different this time, as with most room-escape games. That was one of the things I liked about Escape #3: The Phone Booth.

The solution has been slightly tweaked. The duck on top of the cabinet no longer gives a key. Instead, the 4th key is now found inside the first door, making for a more logical solution.

Deb, the keys you can get at:

You can get one at the large electrical outlets, and another two at the ducks.

Several people have commented that the first duck had no key; but no one responds to that. Are we playing a glitched version of the game, or what?

[Edit: Not a glitch. The links above point to the game on the author's own site, therefore it is the correct version. The game was tweaked slightly by the game author since the walkthrough was written. I've fixed the walkthrough now. Following it will yield the correct solution. -Jay]

I think the makers changed the game

the locked cabinet on the right doesn't open and the duck in the all-the-way right cabinet doesn't give a key no matter what.

what do I do?
