Just released and exclusive to Big Fish Games is the latest simulation game from Last Day of Work, creators of the amazing and popular Virtual Villagers series and Fish Tycoon games.
Plant Tycoon puts you to the task of planting seeds, growing plants of over 500 different species, and discovering the genetic secrets behind 6 magic plants that will make you rich! Become a master horticulturalist as you pollinate adult plants to produce seeds, and even cross pollinate your plants with other species to discover new and rare varieties.
Each game simulates the growth process in real-time with your plants blooming right before your eyes(!), and maturing even when the game is not running. Earn money by pricing your plants and making them available for sale at the Nursery where customers come to browse your prize creations. Use that money to purchase a wide variety of supplies, upgrades and even rare and extinct seeds.
Time control in this game provides four different settings: slow, normal, fast, and stop time. The game defaults to fast time initially since you will likely want to see results immediately. However, you should probably reduce that setting to slow overnight—or to even stop time altogether—or you may wind up with some dead plants the next time you play. Fortunately, only the plants you have growing are suseptible to time; all your seeds remain untouched and safe in the seed box(es) until you're ready to plant them. Pressing the [space bar] toggles time between "stop time" and the setting you choose (slow, normal, or fast). Be sure to look in the Options menu if you wish to change it from its default setting.
There are even a couple of optional activities in this game to discover including bug collecting and sharing snapshots of your favorite plants with your friends. Collecting bugs can even earn you precious money to help you get started by catching bugs you already have in your collection.
Hints and tips:
- Start off by growing all the seeds you are given, along with all the common seed varieties available for purchase. Use these as your base to find the more expensive plants.
- Note the sale price of each variety you grow to find the varieties that can yield more money for you, and focus early efforts on those. This is particularly important to build your bank so you can afford the upgrades necessary to get you further in the game.
- Upgrade your soil as soon as you can since the basic soil will grow only the most common plant varieties. The rare and exotic varieties lose health quickly when grown in common soil.
- Don't waste money on insecticides for the early plants. It's probably better to trash the common varieties than to spend more money than they are worth on a cure.
Analysis: I have been enjoying this game very much. I especially like trying to figure out the cross-pollination sequences required to get to the rare and exotic plants. The attention to detail in the plants grown from seed is incredible. Even plants from the same seed will appear different, as each plant is grown dynamically, and thus with variation. Also, each plant can be pruned right down to its individual leaves and stems. Some supplies can make plants grow and bloom more than usual as well.
Unlike the previously reviewed Alice Greenfingers, Plant Tycoon takes a much more precise approach to growing plants and this may actually turn off those who require a bit more action-oriented gameplay. Since the game is a "real-time" simulation, growing your plants takes "real" time—unless you have available the super effective (and super expensive) Insta-Grow, which super-accelerates plant growth. This is where the time-control settings should be used to your best advantage.
What this game needs is a master blueprint or in-game spreadsheet of some kind that the player can fill out as they progress with mapping out all the different varieties. I've found myself taking extensive notes outside the game, which indicates a shortcoming in the game: the tools it provides are constraining and leaves me wanting more from them.
If you enjoyed Alice Greenfingers but were wishing for something with a bit more depth, then Plant Tycoon may be just what you're looking for. Unfortunately, the 1-hour time-limited demo gives you only enough time to just scratch the surface of this amazingly deep game, and it will keep you wanting more like parched soil for a good watering.

Comments (may contain spoilers)
Andi, playing around in the forum, I found this newer version of the VST. It has quite a bit of new stuff.
Some of it can be printed out.

RuthieJo
I was able to buy another 3 extinct seeds tonight, and one of them was a magic plant.

It's causing me a lot of problems, now I can't sell my Fabled Lemonbushes at $750 like I was. Now the customers coming into the nursery are saying everything is too expensive. So what do I do now?
RuthieJo
Ruthie - well - best thing is - just repollenate your nox orchid, store your seeds (in your VST), and then sell it when its depleted - pollenate each of your existing plants you've got growing, as they are, to get more of the same variety (bung those in your VST for later use) - and when you've done that - get rid of those as well...
Your FabledLemonbushes will sell better at the higher $750 mark if you just sell that species alone... To save time I bung them all for sale at $770 and they'll all go within a minute or two - just keep selling those until you have 20-30-40-50-60-70k or whatever you find is your comfy ammount.... I do it until I have 70K
Then spend a while and 20-30k of your cash experimenting with other plants and seeds - until you get about 10k left in your bank...then start selling your lemonbushes again - it works better in a cycle like this -
In fact - its come to the point I dont bother to sell the cheaper plants, anymore, I just cross pollinate them and have a load of spares, of which I store up in my normal storage box, and then sacrifice these - and play around with the mutation liquid - but only use the mutation stuff AFTER you've grown the plants and you know what they are....(or you might come across a breed you didnt know you had, otherwise)
I've about 50 cross breed ball cactuses that I've saved up and will go and play around with those and mutate them all, to try and get the citrus ball cactus... It's still eluding me - so, like Crushed grapes (Novel name!!!) I'm struggling to get it...
And you're right Ruthie - the newer version you found is much better as it gives you the online charts to work out what possibilities you can crossbreed too - well found! :D
Must dash...But have fun :D
I have done everything to instal this and it keeps telling me I don't have an active game, and I should start one. I have games saved and I don't know what i'm doing wrong, please help! Jana
Andi, I have to laugh at you and Crushed Grapes, every time I start over, I get the citrus ball cactus among the first seeds I get.
I moved all of my nox orchid seeds to my VST, and raised my prices back to $750 for my Fabled Lemonbushes, and nothing would sell still, kept getting the prices too high signs from the customers. Moving the plants and seeds doesn't do much, when you have the magic plant itself out in the nursery.
So, I set that game aside again, and I'm starting over.
But at least I have a place to move all of my extra seeds now.
I wouldn't have found that new VST, if you hadn't told me where to find the first one. I like this new one, I've already printed off the plants, but sure wish I could print off the chart. It would help me make my choices better when I cross pollinate.
RuthieJo
I also like the new VST in that it also fills the soil and waters your plants for you. I'm lazy and have always hated that.
RuthieJo
By having the VST, I can move seeds there and only have one seed tray in the game. I can now save my money for better soils, as I can start cross pollinating faster than before.
RuthieJo
P.S. Andi and Crushed Grapes, I didn't get the Citrus Ball Cactus this time. It's the first time that I've ever started over that I hadn't got it. But I did get four of the other citrus plants.
Another thing I like about the VST, you can find out what your crossed seeds are, before you plant them, this way, if you have a cross you don't want to plant right away, you can move it to the VST.
I'm crossing right now, and this time I have several unhealthy plants, so those seeds will be moved to the VST until I get better soil.
RuthieJo
RuthieJo,
When you are selling your FLB's are you hitting them with some growth juice? I don't have any FLB's in this game but in my old one (RIP), I would give them all a spritz of green stuff. The people in the nursery seem to like that.
Also I've noticed that if I sell one type of plant over and over again those picky nursery folk seem to get bored. So I do a batch of cheap-o plants, sell them off quick, and back to the magics. Now, I'm not sure if this really works or if it's just in my head that the plants seem like they are selling fast and pricey again.
PS
Since you don't have the Citrus Cactus this time maybe you can find a way to get FLB's without it. I really could use the money maker and my crossbreeds havn't come up with anything yet.
ALSO
I just read on another forum

but seeing as I dont have an FLB..... I'm still lost.
Hi there.... I've been reading through the forum for a couple of weeks now while I try to work my way through all the different plants... but I've hit an impass. Does anyone know, or have a chart for what you have to hit with the mutation liquid to get some of those super rare breeds? I've got a Rosacea Glaber but at this point I have NO idea how I got it, and I now have a Mystic Tigerfern that I ended up with by messing around with the Glaber. But it seems that no matter what I hit with the mutation liquid I get something I've already got or something at a much lower tier than I'm hoping for. Does anyone have a chart on this information yet? I would really appriciate any thoughts or advice.

Ok, you too, I'm probably going to hate myself tomorrow, but here's how you can get the FLB without the citrus ball cactus.
RuthieJo
P.S.
I wound up having to start the game again, I forgot and left things too long, and they all died, so started over.
This time I got the citrus ball cactus.
RuthieJo
JennB, if you'll download the virtual seed tray, the one I sent out yesterday, it has a chart, under the tools section and it will give you all of the plants and how to pollinate them.
RuthieJo
CrushedGrapes
I was hitting the FLB with a squirt of both of the green bottles and also one of the fertilizer bombs. I only had the blue soil and I lost twelve of the fifteen, but the three that I had, sold for $300 each.
RuthieJo
Ruthie - been thinking - is there a way of printing the cross-polination chart off at all by right clicking it?.....will go and see....Nope - Ohhhh boulderdash - bang went that idea
dont think it can be printed hun...
And Crushed Grapes is right - sometimes the peeps can seem bored - when this happens I pop one FLB up for sale at a mere $500 and that will sell - then I just go back and sell the rest at the original $770... - I did even manage $840 for 3 really tall 7 flowered ones too
Oh and I experimented - and let a batch grow naturally with the time running and just squirted with 4-5 green squirts - they wont sell at the higher price - merely $4-500
Still cant get that cirtus ball-cactus!!! Managed a mela rare oak by mutating a jalapa maranta somehow into a baccatus fanleaf - and accidentally cross polinating that with a jalapa ball cactus....so that was a happy accident - but that doesn't sell for much either... At least I found it tho
Now got a couple of pitchers too - one was in todays supplies - so I pollinated itself and now have a dozen.... Might mutate a few til I get a different flower and then crossbreed those...
Ohhhhhhh the joys - if someone would have told me 3 weeks ago I'd get so besotted in being an amateur horticulturist - I'd have laughed at them!
And Jenn - I dont think there's a definative list as such for the mutation effects - I think a lot of it is predestined to be certain "breeds" for each specific plant but I have had the odd really different one appear now and then...
Maybe someone could try and work it all out?...I might try - when - or rather - if I get around to my own goal of 1 of each plant with each flower.... We'll see :D
Enjoy your weekend peeple ;)
here's a page that tells how to bred all of the six magic plants, and also how to get ones if you don't have the citrus ball cactus.
RuthieJo
here's a page that tells how to bred all of the six magic plants, and also how to get ones if you don't have the citrus ball cactus.
http://www.ldwforums.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/105703/page/1#Post105703
this page, at the bottom is where you can download a constant water and soil. It checks your pots every fifteen seconds I think it is, and if any are empty, it fills them with soil and water.
RuthieJo
Andi, I put up a spoiler with the way to get your FLB without the citrus cactus.
The only time I can set my clock ahead is with the plants that haven't been crossed. When I cross them and set the clock ahead, they all get unhealthly real quick and most die before I can get all the seeds from them.
I also can't set the clock ahead after I buy the blue and yellow soils, or my plants die, even before I have a chance to pollinate them. I've tried experimenting the different clock settings. With the regular soil, and no cross pollinations, I can set the clock ahead one hour, get everything to maturity, then pollinate, set the clock ahead fifteen to twenty minutes then I have all my seeds. With the other two soils, I've tried setting the clock ahead one minute less than budding time, it doesn't work that way either. So what do I do?
When I planted my FLB's, I gave them a squirt of both of the green bottles and one of the fertilizer bombs. I used the bombs as soon as I planted the seeds, then the two green bottles as soon as all of the plants were up, as they are suppose to be used on immature plants. I had beautiful FLB's and they were selling at $750 with no problems, until I got that

RuthieJo
Those pesky people should just be happy with what we sell them, regardless of the price. I get especially mad at this one butch looking little guy who ALWAYS gives me the :( $
Well I got myself the

I have bought every nursery upgrade except for the fountain and the refurbishment, so that might help with the selling as well.
Ruthie Jo
Do you have yellow or blue waters as well as soil?Because that seems to help keep up the health of my plants. Otherwize I don't know what's going on with them.
Also,

Jalapa Maranta and Fragrant Maple
To make a Fragrant Maple, cross a Fourpetal Maple and a Jalapa Maple
To make a Jalapa Maple, cross a CITRUS BALL CACTUS and a Spotted Maranta
To make a Spotted Maranta, cross a Spotted Ball Cactus and a Spotted Reptans
maybe you could cross a

I'll giver a try after I've made EVEN MORE MONEY! muahahahahhahahaha
Ruthie - if you're having to restart the game from scratch with basic plants and basic soil/water etc, you'll have to readapt your basic selling techniques - unfortunatly - when you do start from the begining - you have very little opiton, little cash and little resources...
Everything does take time and you have to really nurture each plant individually and cannot afford the squirty growth stuff or blue formula - so this restricts the quality of the plants and how much the peeps are prepared to pay...
Obviously having the VST will help enormously - it really narked me when I first started the game, that the price of 1 basic seed was $50....Not $50 and you'd get 4-5 specimens (like you would if you bought some on fish tycoon (which is juat as addictive altho I've given up on that one after finding 5 of the 7 magic fish)) ...So it does seem rather unfair - but - you have to thank your lucky stars at least that seeds in your storage boxes/VST - arnt affected by time and don't die (wheras in reality seeds do have a "sell by date" so to speak.....)
..And of course - without the VST - your storage of pollinated seeds would be extreemly limited... And selling the seeds for $1 each (laughable paltry sum) and whacking the bugs for extra dosh - really did get on my wick... At least now tho - with the VST it gives you that capability of storing everything - and - as you said, if the plants need better soil/water save those seeds and put them away until you have enough from selling the easier to grow plants - then upgrade the soil/water - and then try the harder seeds...
it's like juggling with jelly - for want of a better euphemism...
So Crushed Grapes and I seem to be the unfortunate ones in not having had the citrus ball cactus from the start - great fun! - thing is, I don't really need it now - my mela rare oak came from mutating a spare magical fourpetal maple... so I really don't need the citrus ball cactus now - instead I need a citrus reptans to go about getting the aureous scandens
As for the nox orchid - the word Nox put me off - It kinda says it's poisonous... the word noxious made me wonder if perhaps that would mean it might affect the quality of the other plants - or the seeds in my storage...Call me panicky - but I'm avoiding breeding that, for now - until I have most, if not all, of the other plants
Anyway - it's Saturday - and much as I'd love to be pollinating and cross-breeding - I have a real life - hehehe...
You guys have a great weekend ;)
Crushed Grapes, the FLB can also be:
mutated into and from: fabled fanleaf, jalapa lemonbush, fabled bamboo, fragrant lemonbush
RuthieJo
Crushed Grapes, on the ID where I'm having the most troubles, I have EVERYTHING and I mean everything. I've even been buying six extinct seeds (I get them twice a day now). It's just when I got the magic plant

Next time, I'm going to keep an eye out and when I come up with those seeds again, I'm not going to plant them, I'm going to hold on to them, and make them my sixth magic plant.
RuthieJo
Well I forgot to stop time last night when I shut the game down, so I got up this morning to dead plants. Just started over. I enjoy starting over any way, I now have the VST and the constant gardener, so all I have to do is drop in the seeds, set the clock ahead and pollinate, set the clock ahead, and harvest the seeds.
I try different thing every time I start over any way.
I still have the game with the obnoxious magic plant lol.
RuthieJo
I think I'm going over to the VST and make my own chart. I'll just print off a grid, then add the names and put my crosses in when I start them. That way, I'll have a better idea of what I'm crossing.
I just like playing around with this game, I don't care if I ever get all six of the magic plants.
I want a green house for real, and this is kind of like having one, but I just don't have to go out in the heat and cold to take care of the plants, and it's cheaper lol.
RuthieJo
The constant gardener works great.
RuthieJo
Well I just got the constant gardener and the VST. Didn't have them before because I only have one game running and wasnt doing too much cross polinating.
I've been selling the AS for $500 (or $400 if I forget to bomb them with growth stuff). And using the $ to buy extinct seeds. I grew a batch of unknown seeds and YEP, that obnoxious plant grew. I had seen your warning so I set my prices really low in hopes that my plants would sell quick and they still did. Then I re-polinated the obnoxious one and put it in my VST then started but with my AS' again. They're selling for $450 but they take a bit longer to sell.
I think I'll make another game today and keep this one to get all the magic plants.
Well I spent almost all day yesterday working on PT under the new ID. I bought the three cheap seeds from the supply store, to make me a total of fifteen plants, even though some were identical.
I planted and harvested seeds, saving all of the seeds in the VSB for a long time, then I went over to it and trashed all of the seeds, leaving 15 of each seed. Then I went back and did it all over again, not cross pollinating any, except for a couple I did accidently. Of course it took me forever to get the blue soil and water, but finally did. Then I again trashed all of the seeds except for 15 of each. I also wrote down each of these beginning seeds, so if I needed them again, I could distinguish them from the crossed seeds.
I started crossing and got my FLB, and am now on my fourth go around selling them. I sold the first batch for $300, bought my good soil with those and sold the extra seeds, leaving 15 of course, and was able to get the fountain for the nursery. The second batch, I raised to $500, and now I'm getting $750 for them.
After I plant a batch of seeds, I hit them with the fertilizer bomb, then watch, and as soon as they come up, I hit them with one squirt of each of the green bottles. So far that's all they've needed. Most plants have seven flowers on them, and I don't have much to prune off in the way of dead leaves either.
I've bought everything for the nursery now, and just bought the last two seed flats, so when I start crossing, I can keep a few of the seeds up close.
It does get tiring having to pause the time and then shut down PT to go over to the VSB, to transfer seeds, back and forth.
When I start crossing in earnest though, I'm going to make darn sure that I keep the seeds from that obnoxious magic plant hidden, and not plant it, until I get all of the other magic plants. That's one nice thing about having the chart in the VSB, I'll know what each cross is, when I make them.
RuthieJo
What is the money cheat you guys im confused?
~randimay~
RuthieJo,
Sorry for not answer before.
It will be easier to explain to you, if we could e-mail each other.
I got all possible plants with this system, that use math and can be used graphicaly also.
I can send you the sheets I used.
Luiz
Does anyone have any tips for getting the level 4 plants with spotted foliage? I've only just gotten the Tilia variety and haven't had a chance to cross it out, but nothing else seems to be getting me say, a spotted Ridgeball.
Ok this is my lil help the people guide from me to u ^.^
Ok!.......
The mutation potion doesn’t really do anything or create a “new plant” it just makes fabled fanleaf, jalapa lemonbush, fabled bamboo, fragrant lemonbush….
Next yes every time a whole day goes by in the game all the seeds in the store reset.
OH! Theres also a bad thing with missin with the time. If u miss with it tooo much it stops all the process of growing plants. They get infested easier too cuz one plant is by an infested one it gets infested its self.
With the upgrades for the nursery they actual do work for me that is lol.
The items upgrades that I bought are all 3 trays the yellow soil and the blue watering can. The watering cans help prevent infections and of course the soil helps the plants grow (duh…). And the nets I have never upgrade my net and I only need 3 or 4 more…
Getting money fast (without a code)
Lol ok once you find a magic plant make sure you seed it…. (plus I also learned that the insta-grow really helps. Once u pollinate it use the insta-grow and the seed will sprout faster) ok example the fabled rose of isola (sells for 400$) seed it and plant atleast 2 of the seeds grow them and sell them all. That’s 800 right there. Just continue that whenever you need it.
I believe that the bugs just randomly appear >.< so I guess I dunno really…
Ahhh to make a pipe cactus u need to mix: maple x ball cactus
Eh ummm if you need anything let me know
anyways i love this game!!!!! it soo cool cuz ima plant freak so like its my garden at at home ^_^.
A total list of cross-breeding
who know how to make Citrus Reptans?who can help me?
jason
Is there a way to toggle Full Screen off and on without going to the options menu?
it's a great game .. counter shows now about 600 hours, 2 magic plants, all items in supplies, 44bugs .. I found lot's of nice infos here, .. but I still have following problem : where can I get plants names ? only when mature in the main window selected I see there name displayed ... in the seeds window not ... any trick or link to find name-preview-seed ? thanks
as far as I know unless you memorize the names of the plants and what they look like, you're stuck until the plant matures and the name comes up.
I've memorized most of the first tier plants and a lot of the crosses for the second tier.
Since I restarted the game, I have only found one magic plant, but that one I can sell for $750. It doesn't grow very well for me in the blue soil, but it did grow well enough for me to be able to buy the yellow soil and water. I have also been able to buy everything in the supplies for the nursery and I get a lot more customers.
I have all of my first three tiers of plants, but as soon as I get enough money ahead, I'm going to start on my fourth tier plants and maybe get my other magic plants.
RuthieJo
Hi I just wanted to say that I am a science teacher. And I have been using plant tycoon in my classroom for each of my classes. The kids love it Its fun and is very educational. They are not allowed to use spoolers on there games. They get 30 minutes aday then the next class comes in and takes over so far, I have had no kid skipping my class. They are all keeping notes and I have even noticed kids from different periods talking to each other about this game and what seeds they found what they have polinated each one with and so forth. I just wanted to say thanks to whoever made this game.I have even gave test to each one of my students and each passed with flying colors,Even my poorest grade students are passing with Bs and Cs I just hope they come out with a second edition to this one maybe where seeds can be sold or giving names by the founder of the seeds Anyways it is about time for my first class to get here so I had better go but Thanks again for making learning so much fun.
PS I do use the gardner it makes it alot easier for me with corpal tunnel but thats the only spooler I use personally.
Anne, Fish Tycoon would also be a good one to use in your class room.
RuthieJo

i try to answer some of the questions above
concerning the numbered list posted by luiz on Nov. 1st

sorry, i made a mistake in the mutation liquid story above!

or try to mutate astera or grass for orchid and daisy or bluestar for nox (e.g. start with a bluestar astera)
Hi, i've made 4 magic plants, and looking forward to make the remaining 2. No one here explained when to apply the mutation liquid. Can you please explain when to apply it? Emidiately when you plant the seed, or when the plant matures, or when you polinate it? Please, help.
you best apply it to mature plants, so you can watch the effect.
To water two pots at the same time:
Select the second pot. Bring the water at the lower right corner of the first pot make sue you are still selecting on the second pot. You will hear a brrrrrt sound
The magic plants will sell better at these prices
Rose of Joy:$129
Tree of Fragrance:$77
Fabled Rose:$436
Flower of Knowledge:$164
Berries of Wealth:$226
Fruit of Life:$191
If you're looking for the ULTIMATE CHEAT for Plant Tycoon, try the Plant Tycoon plant calculator:
Can anyone tell me how i can get a picture of each flower with its seed and name?PLEASE
How do I cross-polinate? Do i drag the seeds from the pollinated plants to one that ive only just planted or do it in the seed tray. I keep having to use the mutation liquid to get the plants i need to get the 6 magic plants, ive got the rose of joy but dont know where to go from here or to find the other 5 magic plants.
Roger, I sell the Fabled Rose aka Fabled Lemonbush, for $750 and they sell all the time. I've made sure that I have not crossed the Flower of Knowledge yet. When I do, I'll keep the seeds, and plant them as my last magic flower.
I played under a different id, and was selling my FLB for $750, then an accidental cross, gave me the Flower of Knowledge, and it wouldn't let me raise my prices above the $436. So since I couldn't delete the plant as it was already in the nursery, I started playing under a different id. This way, I can make my money selling the FLB, then start crossing the tier four plants.
Inccidently thanks for plant calculator.

Can anyone tell me how to crosspolinate? Is it just a matter of planting seeds in a pot that grew a different plant before? I have bought everything I can buy, and keep growing plants and selling them. I have tired the vapor bomb and some vitamins, but I still only have have two plants. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to start over? I haven't tracked anything to this point.
Thanks!
Steph
you just have to use your other plants pollen on different plants
Does anybody know how to make that purple rose? I've tried again & again, but unable to make it. Please help me; if you know how to make it. It's driving me "crazy" with all the people coming in with that purple flower in their heads! (lol)
Thank You,
Aries
So I think my game may be messed up... I might sound stupid so pardon me but after reading the comments I became very confused because people are saying the Mela Rare Oak is the magic tree of fragrance but my game is calling the Four Petal Maple the magic tree of fragrance. Do different games have different names?? I've only been playing for less than a week now and have found 2 of the magic plants (one with the bogus name). Anyone know why this is? Thanks!
to make the game go faster you can adjust the time on your computer sense the game works on real time you can fool the game and have a full grown plant within 30 sec. no need to buy grow potions.
Just started playing how do you cross breed the plants?
well, hello there everyone :-) i think i have a problem with the game... i've been playing something like 5 weeks and have 5 of the 6 magic plants, have all the bugs...but i lookd at the game images and it seems that i dont have sooo many of the flower kinds, ive never seen even one of that purple fruits or the purple roses and even the dark blue roses, or alot of others...is it a bug? :-( what to doooo???
I just started the game and only have 1 magic plant. I only have the bad kind of supplies and I need alot more money. Can any one help me get some beginner help?
PLEASE!
Missy, all magic plants have two different names
it messed me up for a while, until I finally figured it out.
RuthieJo
cannibalskunk, you can set your clock ahead during the first tier plants without any problems, but I found after I started crossing plants, I can't do that any more without either having my plants die, or have them all full of bugs
Lana, when you get your plants grown to where they are mature and ready to pollinate, you decided which plants you want to cross with other plants, then you click on that plant, drag the pollin from it to which ever plant you want to pollinate with it, that's all you do.
Alice101, you need to breed the Fabled Lemon Bush, that's a money maker. Read thru the archives, starting at the bottom of them and you'll find out how to make it.
RuthieJo
shani, there are over 500 different plants, and you don't need to have them all to get all six magic plants. There are a lot of places here in the archives that will tell you how to bred these plants, just click on the "spoilers"

I'm getting ready to start the game under a new ID (again lol) and this time make my own chart and will post it here when it's finished, in a few months.

I do not understand how Andi got $840 for FLB When I had 11 Of 15 was 3" tell and 4 Of 15 was 2.5 tall. All had 8 or more flowers I only got $730
Dear everybody who's reading this:
Do you remember when people in the nursery sometimes have purple roses on their thought bubbles when you click them?
They are called Painted. Yeah, I know it's silly, but it's the truth, I'm telling you!!!
roses are blue The flowers of painted looks like Daisys flowers but purple Mystic flowers also are purple look like to me a dragen fly.
Opps
roses are Fabled flower
I upgraded my soil and water to the second best soil and water but my nox orchids and mela rare oaks keep on dying how can i stop them from dying?
There is a table of three charts to aid recording and displaying the transformations at http://www.geocities.com/wbeatrice12/profilio/gameStrategy/PCgame_PlantTycoon/plantTycoonCharts.html
Not sure if the charts are the best organization for the game data but feel free to use it and email me your strategies or suggestions :)
I'm starting a support site for this game. If you would like further information about this site, please visit http://planttycoonmogul.angelfire.com/
Just wondering how you finish the game. My girl plays it everyday and I told her I would be able to get all 6 secret plants before her. Started today and got all 6 plants - although yes, I did cheat a bit (the good old hex editor works a treat to get you basically unlimited $). So after you get all the secret plants though, what are you supposed to do?
I keep seeing customers come in looking for a lavender rose on "plant tycoon". Any ideas on how I create this rose!
Thanks Mythtrical
can someone please give me a detailed walkthrough not just what plants i need to finish? ive been playing this game for ages and im still no closer to finishing and i have no idea how many pants ive discovered. i have all the upgrades and all the nursery equiptment i need 5 more bugs, but need 4 magic pants? i have the frangrance one and rose of isola...?
can someone please help me!!
Hi Jay :)
You may not remember me, I did a walkthrough for Virtual Villagers awhile back.
I got Plant Tycoon about 2 weeks ago, and began fully documenting my plant production on my first nursery, but soon realized that just as in Fish Tycoon, I needed the original 4 plants to start, so I admit to checking out a spoiler to find out what those were ;)
I am now in the fourth stage of breeding (NOT the 4th level of plants/seeds), and I have been keeping copious notes.
I may do a walkthrough for Plant Tycoon as well and post it here for you.
I was wondering, what is the most expensive plant in the game?

i'm not agree with the calculation of the number of possible pollination combinations. I've just finished all the 529 plants with an aid of some simple programming at http://www.geocities.com/wbeatrice12/profilio/gameStrategy/PCgame_PlantTycoon/plantTycoonCharts.html (there are three buttons to help you find a complete chart of color/species parents, complete transformation sequence of any two colors/species and an aid if you are stuck with the next possible new pollination).
I only used 190 hours to plant 2772 plants in order to get all the 529 plants. The number of possible pollination combinations reduces greatly because you can omit most of pollination combinations as a color or a species can be formed from different combinations. In other words, you aim at destination oriented rather than trial on possible pollinations in this game.
Besides, only yellow/citrus reptans/ball cactus are enough to complete the 6-magic-plant quest.
Good Luck!

Mutation fluid works only on the coordinate plants. For example, you want a spotted glaber as the mutation result. Spotted does not have coordinate color but it is the coordinate color for Painted. Glaber's coordinate species is ball cactus. Therefore, you need Painted Ball Cactus to start a mutation. If the first result is not what you want, just apply the mutation fluid on the same plant again, then you will finally get the Spotted Glaber. Of course, you may not have spotted ball cactus initially so that you can never get the painted ball cactus. In this case, you need to further dig down the coordinate generation tree: painted ball cactus
For some money:
go to "/My Documents/LDW/Plant Tycoon" open the "Plant Tycoon1.ldw" (or ....2/3/4.ldw) with your favourite hex-editor go to offset 0x2180 for a fresh game there is written FA 00 00 ... change to FF FF FF and have fun...
we got a hex editor and there was nothing about offset. how do i find it?

I have been playing PT online for around week now and addicted to it..gr8 game...I accidently got the FLB and never knew that it was a Magic Plant until I read this forum.
I have played Plant Tycoon enough times to recognise a Flower/Plant from its budding stage. My game has been acting pretty strange though.
Firstly, the Fabled Lemon Brush is not recognised as a Magic Plant in my game. I do not know why ?
Secondly, what happened today has really shocked me. I had created a few Roseceaes Ferns which are supposed to be Magic Plants and other Ferns like Viola, Jalapa, Fabled Ferns. But the game refuses to recognise the Roseceaea Fern as a Magic Plant. Instead it marks the Viola Fern as "The Roseceaea Fern" and I got a message saying I found a Magic Plant.
What's funny here is the imposters' "Viola Ferns" are sitting in golden pots and selling like hot pancakes whereas the real Roseceaea Ferns sell at $32 max.
My game has just got more interesting as the 2 Magic Plants are not recognised as MPs so I need to find all the 6 imposters...sorry 5 of them now as I found 1 today.
Maybe the game designers/testers can explain/helo me out regarding this. I've screenshots which I can email on request. So the only Magic Plant sitting in the golden pot in my nursery is the Viola Fern...Talk about Magic... :) Happy Planting...
hi everyone. i just want to tell everyone that I have no trouble selling my Fabled Lemonbush for $1000 each.

Pobol,
I just about have every plant. I'm working on the Ridgeballs and have yet to get the Spotted Weeper or Spotted Multiflora. You mentioned the mutation liquid only working on the coordinate plants. Did you mean - subordinate - or below? I'm trying to figure out how the mutation liquid works and have lost several thousand in my attempts. If anyone can explain it to me I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Hi, I am new to plant tycoon, and completely addicted. I'm just beginning to work with the mutation liquid. I noticed that for some seeds, if I mutate them five times, it mutates back to the origional seed. Is five times the max number of times you can mutate a seed? Does anyone know?
jessa
I'm new to the game but I have my first magic plant and I'm addicted. How can you raise the price of the plants you sell?
Pam, To change the price of the plant, click on the price tab. Make your change, then click the sell tab.
Well originally, the mutation liquid is only by the species and is random luck and is problably not worth it
as you are wasting 1000$ to just mutate a plant.
......I have all the magic plants and it is very boring just playing it now.I have over 20k thanks to my Fabled
lemonbush and my Aureus Scandens. $$$$$
Hi everybody... I need help... I've got all the plants exept the spotted glaber, tigerfern, weeper, multiflora, pitcher, and ridgeball, also missing the complex reptant... tilia, lilia, etc... can you help me crospolinate this ones please....
If you are lucky to buy the seeds on the supplies corner, or through mutation. This will take more than a hundred mutation liquids to start with.
thanks.. I already got the reptans (tilia) by mutation and then crosspolination the rest but the spotted just cant get them...
Couldn't buy it but got lucky and mutated it after 100 mutations... got one and crosspolinated the rest... thanks...got them all
Shula
I'll be generous to let you guys know how to make the

Walkthrough Guide
File this one under "walkthrough", here is a foliage cross chart. (Whew!)
Don't look at the chart unless you're looking for a spoiler, as it reveals (most of) the plant foliage types:
http://tinyurl.com/39f7df
Just finished mapping this out, and in so doing found two more flower types, making 17 (so far) of those, too. I'll post the flower chart when I finish.
If anyone notices any errors, please post a comment here and I'll update the sheet.
(And no, I didn't mess with my clock even once.)
