Weekend Download

JohnBWhat does a muscular bunny rabbit, a pegasus roller coaster, and a bouncy rubber ball have in common? They all enjoy the musky aroma and cherry/strawberry fusion flavor of JIG Cola! That, and they happen to star in games featured on this week's Weekend Download. While you recover from your 7/7/07 party bonanza from last night (you DID remember to party, didn't you?), let these games soothe your soul and tickle your brain into casual gaming submission.

wilfred.jpgWilfred, the Hero (Windows, freeware, 40MB) - An astonishingly creative role playing game made by Brandon Abley and Teo Mathlein using RPG Maker XP. The graphics are eye-catching and have a great fairy tale look to them, while the story and gameplay are pure console RPG goodness. The game is laid out much like a classic Final Fantasy title but doesn't copy anything directly. It's a unique, deep and involving game that deserves your attention!

stonedestiny.jpgThe Stone of Destiny (Windows/Mac, limited demo, 23MB) - If you got a kick out of yesterday's Azada (or if you enjoy item-hunting games in general), Stone of Destiny is right up your alley. A pseudo-mysterious adventure is woven into item-hunting scenes that are far more forgiving than in your average seek-and-find game. Between rounds you'll draw runes and solve simple fantasy-themed puzzles, keeping the action lively. It isn't as full-featured or deep as Azada or the Hidden Expedition series, but it does its job remarkably well.

nball.jpgN-Ball (Windows/Mac, limited demo, 4MB<) - Physics, meet a bouncey ball. Player, meet rubbery platforms you'll have to jump over, bound off of, and shove to the side so you can continue. N-Ball is one part platformer, two parts really strange wacky platformer. But it's fun, and that's what counts!

coasterrider.jpgCoaster Rider (Windows, freeware, 12MB) - Line Rider with a purpose, Coaster Rider puts you in charge of creating a roller coaster track to guide the Pegasus from one end of the stage to the other, collecting stars along the way. It's more challenge than creativity, but the fun use of physics makes it a good play.

I've played N Ball before and it's really great fun, well worth a download. In fact, all of the games on the site are worth playing, particularly Ragdoll Masters.

wow. N-Ball is stupidly fun. one of the things I liked all the different machanisms, like the sledge ride and the swing in level 6. very physics-y and fun to just mess about in.
I'm tempted to buy the full version, if it wasn't for the fast that I almost have enough cash to buy a new game for my Wii :D

I've paid for N-Ball as well. It's really fun, and there are add-on packs you can use if you're registered. The downside is that the level editor doesn't have a very good UI, so creating your own level packs is rather painful.

NBall is really fun (maybe a little senseless fun, since the game is basically jumping with a ball), and Coaster Rider is something like a mix of Line Rider and Free Rider. The other games also seem fun, but I'm afraid I won't have time to play them.

!!!

Wilfred the Hero got featured!

gamingw is proud. :D

Hey, Big Fish Games tells me that The Stone of Destiny is available for Windows only. You might want to change the description so us Mac folks don't get our hopes up :(

Unfortuantely, I can't play Wilfred the Hero because it is full-screen. For a reason likely associated with my video card, the bottom half of the screen is black. I have attempted to run it through the command prompt with the window option, but that doesn't seem to work. It looks like this is a game I'm going to have pass on.

Nice game selection, I'm inspired to play N-Ball again :D

Wilfred, the Hero was made with RPG Maker 2003, though, not RPG Maker XP.

I downloaded the coaster rider, but when I start the game, it gives me an error:

ERROR in action number 1
of Key Release Event for (no key) Key
for object obj_view:
Error defining an external function.

Then there's abort and ignore. Ignore doesn't do anything, but when I press abort, the game starts. Then when I have drawn the coaster and press play, the cart doesn't show up. Anybody know what's wrong? And by the way those () supposed to be these >, but this removes them and the word between them.

I bought NBall, and for the past hour I've been bouncing around to loads of levels :o) its fun, I have no idea why physics games get me so addicted. being able to download other people's games is one of the best features as it means I'll never run out of things to bounce around :] and some of the stuff people have created is awesome, although often it takes several tries to get them to work properly, but I don't mind :)

I played coaster rider for awhile and am disappointed. The edit options are very limited; only free-hand draw and erase. It is difficult to draw a straight line with just a mouse, so any small bump in the track will put off the momentum of the coaster. I spent a good twenty minutes trying to smooth out one tiny bump to no avail. If there were options for a click and drag straight line, or even a toggle to snap-to the end of a line it would be a lot more manageable. Otherwise, I'd rather stick to Line Rider.

Wilfred the hero looks like good fun, I really enjoyed the intro and got really engaged with the story. But when it got to the actual gameplay I didn't really know what I was doing and there doesn't seem to be any kind of information on how to play it. I got killed in my first fight, surely that shouldn't happen?

For the controls for Wilfred, esc is a menu, shift is a map, f4 changes from full screen mode to windowed mode. Space/enter is for your all around needs, like opening chests, and jumping over small bodies of water.

I'm really loving it so far ;D if I only had more time to play it.

Is there a way to skip the beginning FMV in Wilfred? I keep dying and it's getting annoying.

Ah, thank you, :o. Now that I've got Wilfred windowed, I can enjoy it. :-)

Ahh! I just finished Wilfred. D: And it was sad. And way too short. I wish they would release part 2.

Does anyone know what the Hebrew on the main page of The Stone of Destiny is? I only know enough to recognize it as such, it's moving too fast for me!

Thanks :o for posting the hints about controls in Wilfred! I'm pretty sure I would have never found the map otherwise.

Has anyone figured out how the skills system works? I just found a "Skills junction" and want to use it to learn a new skill (I think this is what it does), but I have no idea how to do this. Any ideas?

Hehe, you're welcome. I just smashed all the keys on my keyboard until something happened.

The skill junctions you get can be placed into a skill map shown in the menu under mastery. You can place a skill junction by pressing space/enter. Be careful, 'cause you can't undo it D: Then you have to go into your "equip" menu, go to where the 4 dots are and equip the skill.

Some have certain prerequisites, like "ethics". If you were wondering how to get +/- ethics, you have to use (non)ethical skills more often to increase or decrease it. I think.

:o, Thanks so much!

Stone of Destiny has no Mac version.

i'm stuck in wilfred where you have to make violin play

i've listened to all the frogit and i feel like i did all
the possible combination, someone please help!!

Well, I really like coaster rider, but I can't figure out how to move the screen. I know there is almost no chance of anybody reading this, but if anyone does, help would be REALLY appreciated.

[Edit: eh-hem. Somebody reads every comment here. You'll be surprised. ;) -Jay]

dale_fan3 - have you tried right-click dragging?

do you need the rpg maker 2003 to play wilfred the hero, cuz I don't have it and the game wont work

Right click and drag to move in coaster rider. Also, has anyone beaten the first level?
