Toronto Indie Game Development Jam

tojam1.jpgJohnBThey start with nothing, and in just three days time, a completed game sits before them. The second Toronto Indie Game Development Jam (TO Jam) was held earlier this month from May 4-6. Over 60 intrepid participants dove into the creative corners of their minds and pulled out unique games the world has never seen (and in some wacky cases, should never see). Just seven of the 20 games have been made available to play, but already it looks like the creativity tap was turned on high for the duration of the jam. It wasn't a competition, it wasn't a seminar, it was just a great excuse for programmers (and artists!) to get together and stretch their creative muscles for the betterment of indie gaming. Head over to TOJam.ca to check out the games and keep an eye on new releases.

shouldn't it be TIGDJam?

TO = Toronto, Ontario.

And I believe they wanted something easy to remember. ;)

impressive!

i only played Xiq, its fun, but hard and quite confusing with all the lines shooting out from the background....
still amazing it was done in three days!

and if you are feeling stupid, like i was this morning, then its TOronto Jam :)

Huge thanks for the writeup! We've had a huge spike in traffic today, which can be attributed entirely to you and your good looking viewers.

Don't forget to come back when the rest of the games are posted (everything should be posted by June 8). Among other things, there's a highly polished memory game featuring Noah's Ark, a Capcom 1943 homage , a supercool & sexy DDR style game, and a noodle attempting to free meatballs.

TOJam was coined by Rob Segal (another organizer) since it was not only easy to remember, but funny! At business meetings, we pronounce it "T.O. Jam". During casual conversation, we use "Toe Jam". It still makes me laugh. It's inspired many disgusting game ideas, hopefully none of which will ever see the light of day.
