With the plethora of point-and-click room escape games that hit the Web each day, rarely do we ever see one of a quality similar to that of Viridian Room, one of the first and arguably still one of the best.
Enter the Rental House—and note the viridian green walls. This Japanese-made adventure offers a quality game play experience packed with puzzles that will force you to think logically. It is a straight forward game of its genre with only a couple of minor pixel hunts involved. Easy enough to complete on ones own, and yet challenging to give you about an hour's worth of fun. In case you don't have time to finish it in one sitting, an integrated save feature will store your progress for later.
Created by GUMP and released only just today, get your point-and-click skills in order and prepare to escape from the Rental House.
Note: since the game was just released today, and it is of a very high quality for a room escape game, the servers are probably getting hammered hard. So, if you enounter a server error, try reloading the page. It worked for me.
Cheers to Ncn for suggesting it! =)
Rental House walkthrough now available!

Ooh, looks fun!
I've found : One coin, a flash light and 2 batteries, a glass, a paper with green dots and an energy drink.
How to use the flashlight ? I turn the room light off, the flashlight on and ... can't see nothing.

Just beat it dont have time to type up a walkthrough because i have class .. so this one is from ncn .. i tested it and works fine.
weird ending.
fun to play, not very difficult.
I had to use the guide for a few things. I just couldn't see

Nice game, I just have one thing to add to the walkthrough:

The order you put the liquids and the pill into the machine doesn't matter at all. You can even add as much water as you want (I put 4 or 5 glases of water into the machine before I realized that this wouldn't get me anywhere :D )
I really like the ending.
tripping.
carlos casteneda style.
escape no. 5157
had to get help from the walkthrough, thanks~
weird ending~
step 28 of the walkthrough can be simplified:

Dude, like, what did they drop in my Red Bull!
Escape 5578...yes! With only one hint...:(
I must say, not as pleasurable as Submachine. Slightly more "fever-clicking" on my poor mouse.
Wow, quite the ending!
Are we sure this isn't an advergame for a pharmaceutical company. Or maybe a pro-drug-use ad ("Brought to you by the National Councel for the Promotion of Psychotropic Agents (NCPPA)").
In any case, nicely done. The UI felt just a bid clunky at times, but I think that's the fate of most escape-the-room games.
When I click on the link, the page shows up, but the game doesn't load. It just has a white box.
Has anyone else surfed the site and found out that this was a sequel to "terminal house"? The URL is in my name. Keep in mind that getting onto the game may be a bit tricky, but Jay's trick works for just about any website.
If I put up a walkthru for that, will I be eligible?
Erm oops, the game just kicked in and I instantly recognized it as one posted earlier on this site... Oops again. Forgot the URL too, not that it matters at this point. Guess I'll plant it on this one anyway.
Aloloo - just reload the page (right-click, select reload from the pop-up menu).
I just tried it and I got nothing but the white box, too, just as you said. Then I reloaded, and the game loaded fine.
Seriously, as I mentioned in the review above, there is not a doubt in my mind that the servers hosting this game are receiving an inordinate amount of traffic right now. These types of glitches are to be expected. Have patience and you will get it to load.
Regarding the UI being a bit "clunky", I thought the UI was done exceptionally well. I believe it is a significant improvement over the Terminal House, the precursor to this game, as Mkelican mentions above.
Wow! Such a fun game! I did it all by myself, but I had to peak at the walkthrough for when u put the things in the machine though.
Eh. A little too much "find the tiny hotspot at the exact center of the bottom of the safe, since clicking slightly to the side doesn't work" for my taste.
nj: I agree, but please use the spoiler tag.
I thought the animation was excellent.
I kind of expect these puzzles to be self-contained - that you can work them out entirely on their own terms - and you don't need to

use google to

find the square number or

In the ending, was anyone else reminded of Spirited Away

nice, but i definitely preferred submachine.. :D
How do you combine things?
Nevermind sorry i saw the walkthrough and found out how.
I liked it and solved it, but I didn't like the..

I'm not a big fan of escape-the-room games, and I finally figured out why: it's the whole hunt-the-pixel thing. The reason it bugs me is because I grew up playing text adventures (or "interactive fiction," if you will), and looking behind something was simply a matter of typing it in. Sure, text adventures often suffered from the text analogue of hunt-the-pixel, namely hunt-the-verb, but well-designed games didn't suffer too much. Put me in a text adventure room and I will go crazy picking up and examining every last item mentioned, but put me in one of these graphical rooms and I feel lost.
It is official: I am a dinosaur.
yow: Not sure how you get Spirited Away from that. Just watched it again the other night (fantastic flick, by the way) and the thought never even crossed my mind. Actually, I was more reminded of the water tentacle from The Abyss... of course, now that you mention it, I guess I can see how you got that.
That was good. My only gripe was the pixel hunting for

Aside from that, it was a very well designed puzzle. I love

Man, my character has no idea on how to break out of this room.
1. He isn't even kicking the door particularly hard. He really needs to get his weight behind it and BOOT that thing near the doorknob.
Of course, it's possible that this door is very strong...
2. The door hinges are on THIS SIDE! Just take the pins out and pull the door out of the wall! How could it be easier?
I hate escape the room games... i am horrible at them, and it makes me feel stupid, even though i get really good grades in school (i'm 13). I have no idea why I'm so horrible at these evil games. I found everything that was obvious, then i clicked around for ten minutes and got really ticked off, then found the

Oh man, I can definitely see the abyss reference.
Meanwhile, does anyone else completely feel like a red bull or some other energy drink now? I'm off to get one :D
Suho1004: ah yes, the Abyss.
Hand-E-Food: agreed. I guess as we learn the grammar of puzzles, more techniques need to be added, or else it's too easy? anyway, now I know to

Rulz: games-as-advertisements is an inevitable direction I guess....
JonMW: lol! concept for a casual game? - control a character's run-up and jump at a door, picking the weakest spot! A new "escape" genre :-)
also love the cell-shaded animation of the character. Amazing!
What was up with the guy drinking the Red Bull and going all crazy and then nothing happened I thought that was the end! Can someone tell me what to do next, i am really having trouble!

It would be great if it really worked. Imagine. You can do all the searching OR you can think outside the box, and get out with one move. And the game would count the escapees who got out this way.
That was sooooooooooo easy; I can't agree it is so high quality since I've seen so much better ETR games ^.^

Nice game! A bit on the easy side, although I spent waaay too long finding the

Thank you Harukio!!! Appreciate it, one thing though what if it doesn't work?
Yes! Escaper number 14225! Not half bad. ^_~
The ending is odd, though.

Oh my gosh!!!!! It worked, the door finally opened. That was a very weird ending, but I thought it was cool. I didn't understand the ending though.
Hey all, been enjoying this site for so long, and finally decided to get on the boards.
One question... on the site for the able game there is also the "Terminal House" as well.
Has this game been reviewed yet?
escape no. 15837 thats a lot of people before me - good game!!!
I liked this one a lot, i thought the ending was weird and it was kinda easy (even I could do it with only using the guide once) i thought that getting the combination for the machine was realy interesting
w00t! escape number 26132
not a very long game, but still good.
Nice game, very little places where you can get stuck pixel-hunting.
Walkthruogh correction

You can add the water, blue can, red can and pill in any order.
well im proud that i figured everything out by myself with the exeption to the other half of the paper under the safe. i do find it hard to believe that drinking one energy drink will enable you to kick down a door. Not to mention that he had 2 energy drinks before. but then again it is only a game. Escape Number: 28787
Wow. Psychedelic, man.
I can't take the red can from the machine. :(
I expected that guy kick the door in the end! hahaha...
Where is the other battery???? please help
Oh my god, where is the battery behind the sink? I cant find it...
Please help me :O
i didn't understand how you were supposed to get a code from the paper...how did you get numbers?
i want some of that drink!
Just beat it....need the walkthrough for little bits of it and to check I was doing it right so thanks for that!! And no, the ending did not remind me of spirited away lol
where is the yellow can at?
he karate chops the door omg what an amazing ending though i think im gonna have nightmares about the ghostie-eyeball-creatures try saying that with a mouth full of popcorn....:)
ESCAPE # 85734...beat it..cool ending..
ESCAPE No. 92401
pretty cool game this.
haha- i was 95515.. cool game
Yay im ESCAPE No. 99278 lol what an ending I liked it...it coulda been longer though
yay! escapee number 99792
i know nuts bout dart boards, so was stuck .... thnx for the tips
haha, i finally found out where the battery behind the sink is.
So here goes a very litteral write up of finding the battery behind the sink don't read if your bored. Read if you are desperate.

ESCAPE No. 108921 =D but

OMG Dahitman! You're a life saver thanks so much!
How do you turn on the flashlight?
i did it without walkthrough ( wink wink ) i love escape rooms they own
I liked the game a lot, but the references you guys pointed out made me want to see those movies; funny stuff. Escape No. 9999999... too long to bother(joke).
escape number:116063
'ESCAPE No. 118569'
Nice game. Couldn't get through it without the walkthrough, though. ;]
i love these kind of games.I found almost everything but was thinking way to far.the codes in the book for instance; I thought it all had to do with the dartboard,so i tried 15,15,50(the middle is worth 50).It didn't work so then I added everything up and used the other numbers with it 87,36,80...ofcourse that also didn't work.when I found the first number with my flashlight,I thought that that had to do with the code on the piece of paper,so I did 62487.Everytime I was soo close but couldn't have done it without the walkthrough(thanks for that).ok, I am off to the next one...terminal house. Oh, I loved the ending. The guy is everytime locked in a space ship so it all makes sense.
terminal house was alot easier then the other ones.
a few hints.

I am not going to say more because this one is pretty simple...enjoy!
great game! but that sound that came after the worm thing opening its eyes made me jump 5 feet back
wow this makes sense now. I played the sequel first, and I thought it was some kind of alien abduction thing, but playing the first installment made the sequal much more fulfilling. X3
This game has one of the coolest endings I've seen for an escape-the-room game. Also leaves a sequel open. I say have patience with it, just to see the end.
Heh, first time I've ever seen a room escape game where you

lol, I love how

Standard puzzles, interesting ending, but some of the hiding places required clicking on too small area of the screen, I needed to use the walk-through twice because of that.
