GPokr

gpokr.gifRyan Dewsbury of Toronto is developing a multiplayer no-limit Texas Hold'em game, called GPokr, in Java using the Google Web Toolkit (GWT), which is a software development framework for Java developers to create AJAX applications. The latest version that Ryan has running is quite playable, though beware that it is still a work in progress.

It is easy to create a new player and get started, just enter a user name, email address and choose a password. While your user name is displayed to other players in the game, you will use your email address for login. Your winnings are stored in the database for when you return.

You are given 1,500 chips to start with, so grab a seat and join in the fun. There are only 10 seats available at present (remember, it's a work in progress), so if the table is full, you will have to wait for a seat to open.

Although I haven't yet tested the game with more than a couple of players, so far it seems like a decent first attempt at a game that has become a very popular pasttime. The fact that it is built using GWT is impressive, and I am looking forward to seeing the refinements Ryan makes to it, as well as his future projects. Hey Jay, nice game, glad I got to play a round with you, but I can't figure out the chat.

Jay I'm sitting at the table trying to say hi to you, but the chat isn't working. :(

Hi!

The chat confused me at first, too. The place to enter text is just below the chat window, click in that spot and then type.

It's a bit frustrating when trying to chat while playing since incoming events cause the chat input box to lose focus, and instead giving focus to the bet amount input box.

It also appears that the game is down for the time being until Ryan can attend to the problem. It's 4AM in Toronto, so I imagine it will be a few hours before he is up to check on things.

If you're trying to play, please check back a bit later. =)

jay, thank you for teaching me the rules. :)
pity that once i got an idea of the game, ryan's server screwed up.

Hmmm...glitchy,glitchy,glitchy. It was nearly impossible to register and play due to the cursor being snatched by other functions of the game while trying to enter any text.I guess thats why they call it BETA.

Good luck tho, working out all the buggies.

I think you'll find that Ryan has addressed many of the little annoyances you might have experienced with the previous version of the game. He has made many improvements and added several new features, including a top players pyramid.

Also, multiple tables are now supported with one even named after Jayisgames!

Cheers, Ryan! =D

this is so much fun!! they named a table after me cause im coming second!
