Google blogger, information technologist, and sometimes game developer, Philipp Lenssen of Germany, has created a "choose-your-own" adventure game called The Google Adventure that takes place at the Googleplex, which is where you've just begun a new job...
Today, you started your new job as Google Quality Assurance Assistant of the 3rd degree. That means you're now responsible for spellchecking bug reports. (Well, you're not literally responsible, as you're just assisting the one who's responsible.)
But what you really want is a career inside Google. A high-paying, fulfilling, challenging and creative job. You think you have the right skills, too.
Little do you know, at this point, of the Google Adventure that awaits you.
While there are multiple endings to this hypertext adventure, there is only one "best" ending. Can you find it? Click.
Philipp used QML, the Quest Markup Language and editor, for creating this unique and original game. Also check out Games for the Brain, a whole set of games created by Philipp, previously reviewed here.

ARG!
I made it really far, and then ended up getting fired for kicking the red ball around the developer lab. Interesting game, but I don't think I have enough patience to go back and start from the beginning, again.

How do you use the elevator... I think I've tried all the options, but still don't have a key... I think I may have the code though.

So anyone know how to pick up the plastic sword?
Posted by: Tylor | February 8, 2006 2:14 AM
Heh I got rather further...I don't think it's a spoiler to say that I was unceremoniously ejected from the building having used the red ball for what it was designed for..don't know if I can be bothered to go back and do it all again.
We shall see!

Hey! It's gone! I peeked at it this morning, and it worked. Now it's "File not Found." Any mirrors out there?

Guys, thanks for playing, I'm working on it :)
My server is down because of the game as well as the new SketchSwap.com my colleague and I created. So the two most popular things on my site had to be taken down for now... oh sweet irony... I'm working on both issues the whole day and hope to bring both things back in one form or another.

Now this game actually looks like it'll be fun. =p I'm looking forward to playing it when it's back up. Good luck with that. ^_^

So, I've reached step 1 of restoring the game for you. You can now resume play with Internet Explorer! :)
Firefox and all other browsers will work as soon as I fixed the XML library speed issues.

Any hints on how to get the manager to agree to a promotion?? I was hoping washing his car would help, or singing to him, but nothing so far...

Posted by: BJ | February 8, 2006 11:25 PM

Seriously, play the game before asking :)

Maybe I'm missing a branch, but from my experience playing this game, one of the first things you must do to advance is gather dirt on your boss.
I will be the first to admit that it isn't really gathering dirt on my boss, it's placing a game object into a certain state. But: The Game = NULL; option is always available, is diffiult to misunderstand, and gets my vote.

So, so far I've learned you can get fired by:

I still can't find the red ball... I'm sure I'm missing something really obvious...

And what is the "best ending"? I got promoted to Quality Assurance Manager and I am still working in Google after two years... I did get the green substance but never used it, by the way... Is this the happy ending? I agree with most of you guys--I do not want to go through it all over again! Pwease? What is the best/happy ending?? :-)

Help! I've gotten really far, but cant find rubber gloves, stuff to wash the car with and the rubber ball.

In the old text-based adventure games, like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, you could save the game so that if you died (or got fired) then you didn't have to start all over again. Any chance of that with this game?

to GET the ball
...

surprisingly, your colleague on the second floor is the best help.
steal some food from the chef on the third floor to get gloves then you're forced to wash dishes. I used the gloves on the lab level to fix the green substance and steal some into my mug. can anyone help me next?
