Because I know so many who visit here love point-and-click escape-the-room type games, up next is a recent offering that I learned of from Graeme's Lazylaces, a veritable point-and-click haven.
The game is called the Unforgiven Room, and is being hosted on Newgrounds.
The opening scenario is a nod to Takagi-san's original escape-the-room games, Crimson Room and Viridian Room, in which you wake up with a headache and can't remember a thing, nor even where you are. Such is the begining of a classic escape-the-room adventure.
The gameplay should be familiar to anyone who has ever played one of these games before. For those uninitiated, just click your way around the room searching for clues and items to use that may help you escape. Most games like this end with you finding a key that opens the door, and this one is no exception.
A moveable inventory mechanism floats in the top left corner of the game window—the thing that looks like a stop light turned on its side—and can be opened by clicking on the right side (will highlight green). Close the inventory by clicking on the left side (will highlight red). Items can be used, some by clicking on the item and some by dragging onto other items, either in the room or in the inventory itself.
Analysis: The game is a decent effort by Jason Keyte that features appealing graphics and gameplay that is classic point-and-click goodness. All things considered, it offers some fun for those who enjoy these types of games. However, some of the interactivity is a bit glitchy and frustration may ensue. There are also a few very small hotspots that need to be clicked just right to get some things to happen. For example, taping together the access card can be done if done just right. Put both pieces of the card together so they are touching, then click on just the right spot of the tape to have a piece unroll. Keep playing with it and you'll get it soon enough.
Another thing I did not like about the game is the finger cursor which serves no purpose other than making the mouse movement sluggish. Also, there is one slightly disturbing action that takes place that involves some comic violence (a foot is sawed off). It's not all that bad, but should be pointed out for those concerned about the little ones. Click.

Hi Shawn, thanks for your feedback, and I agree with the points you made. Unfortunately, there's not much else that does compare to the BBC games.
And besides, I pointed out the game's problems in my review. The choice to play is up to the reader. =)

hmmm. getting closer...

Ok I am really stuck. Here's what I have so far:

I have absolutely no idea where to go from here. Also, I was wondering about the computer. I got it to start and get past the logon selection, but is there anything else I can do?
Thanks for any help in advance.
2nd battery

blender blade

dynamite

lighter

I beat the game, but did not use the computer. Did anyone figure out what the password was? Also what was with the stereo?
About the bugs.

what am i missing here?
I can't find the sticky tape - or any keys!
(PS Great site Jay, you're doing a marvellous job!)
Hmm, yeah. Little bit illogical! But still fun to complete.

I made it! and i didn't use the computer..weird..
Like mentioned in a spoiler above

okay, still no tape... I've found and used:

Ok.... I'm down to the tape. I have the cards and I see the slot to put it, but I can't put the card together.
ps GREAT site you have here. I've been coming here avery day for 3 weeks now and I'm making it a daily stop for me!
pps I got the magic foot to appear too.
okay awesome- here's my progress for any others who need help:

If you have any questions or need help, I'll let you in on a few secrets. I will check back on here for a while. Thanks for another great game Jay!
squeedo- did my last spoiler help you out any?
waaahhh where is the blender blade???
Blender blade spoiler:

can't find the blender blades or the tape, can some one give specific instructions on where to find them? Thanx
Tab helps a lot.

Love your website Jay!!! Best way to pass the time at work :)
I finished the game, but I never found the CD for the computer. Just curious where it is.
Thanks, Sara! =)
Location of the CD

Okay, I must be clicking something completely wrong. I've read all the spoilers above, but I still can't get my hands on the 2nd battery and the dynamite. *clickclickclickclickclick*
Nevermind my previous rant, the tab key helped.
Monimonika - the 2nd battery is easy to find:

The dynamite requires a precise click:

For those of you curious about the computer:

It is a pretty pointless piece of clue.
um. . . i completed it. . . question: wat kind of idiot would cut off their own foot just to open one of those foot garbage pail thingys??? wouldnt a normal person just step on it?? weird.
Ok im not sure of a few things i cant find The 2nd battery (found 1st one in ash tray) and wheres toxic waste?
The dang tape was the hardest thing to figure out how to make work. It took many, many clicks to get it to allow me to have a piece.
Ohhhhhh finally got it - i never even cut off the leg to get the trash can open lol
I've got it! Spoiler for the toxic waste! FYI he also says "What the hell?" when he finds the toxic waste.

I think the link is broken it isnt working right?
I think the problem is with the entire Newgrounds site, as it doesn't seem to be responding to HTTP requests. Try again later, I'm sure it's only temporary.
I'm stuck

K ive got 2 batteries, remote, note, lighter, dynamite on chair, and acces card taped togethre...what do i use the caard on, the remote on, and the batteries on
-Bryan
I have a question about the batteries:

Yes, Toni:

Aggh, nevermind I finally solved it :P
Thanks for your help Jay! Off topic, did you know there's another games review blog? It's called lazylaces. Do you see yourself as competing with such similar blogs, or see them as potential collaborators.
Yes, Toni, I have known about Graeme's Lazylaces blog for quite some time. Check out this entry and you'll see that I've even 'reviewed' Lazylaces here. =)
And no, I don't see us as being competitors as much as I see us being comrades in arms. Graeme has a particular preference for featuring point-and-click games, many of which I have reviewed here after having seen them on his blog.
A notable difference is that Graeme doesn't do much in the way of an actual review, and therefore you will receive a much more in-depth treatment for each game here.
I am also working on a recommended blogs/sites section that will soon put icon links to Lazylaces and other important and fun sites in the sidebar along with the recommended games. Look for that soon! =)
cheers!
how do i join both pieces of the card together?
ive got the tape but i have tried to join them lots of times, i also got where to put them
HELP!
No matter how many times i read to comments, i can't seem to find the tape and the blender blade. Any help?
Never mind! i got it!!!

hmmm, not bad. those glitches are very annoying, i was clicking the pedal on the bin and soon enough a foot came from nowhere. i wondered if that was supposed to happen before i found the saw.
some interesting things you may find are, when the light is turned off, the PC monitor and outside scenery darken too, thats wierd. and the items menu is in the credits.
that "joke" with the key key key keyte was stupid. (for those who didnt understand, the maker was jason keyte)
All things considered, it did kill some time.
until next time, adios! and keep smiling.
How do you get the blender blade to work in the blender? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhgh!
If you get an item stuck behind a menu button, you can never get it back. -_- then you have to restart
haha this game was.. weird.
In fact, you don't need to use the lighter, dynamite, or saw if you use the glitch with the trashcan

if anyone still stuk on the tape......

brick is in the bottom drawer under the tv,(the key for it comes out when the toxic waste is put in the blender and broken out) use the brick to break the tv and get the tape, click the tape a few time until it unrolls on the access card
where the heck is the other piece of credit card?
This is actually a glitch, but it reveals some of the parts of the room.

On the right side of the window, drag it in , it will stack the different rooms on top of each other, you can then see some things otherwise difficult to get
Another thing is for some of the precise bits:

Right click and then click zoom in. It helps to pinpoint the exact pixel!
I cant get him to turn around! He's still facing the computer and I can only back up a few times, how do you get a different angle?
Jess - you need to click near the left or right edge of the game window to turn around.
As far as point-and-click games go, this isn't the best out there.
I don't like this game, don't get me wrong whoever made it put alot of effort into it but there's too many things wrong with this game.
1 - It's got the most awkward pointer.
2- The items don't lock in place, which bugs me as they can be placed anywhere in the inventory
3 - After I re-played this game, I realised you can achieve things you're not meant to with tab. For example :

Also there's too many dead links to click on. I think there's 3 on the door, 7 on the inventory panel at the top, 3 on the blender etc.
where is the other half of the credit card?

I have no Idea what to do, Ive turned on the computer, but thats all, I need help!!
Ezza - Look everywhere for clues..
Maybe under beds, behind curtains, and inside drawers...
i need help, where and how do you get the

It was okay I guess... way too precise though. I mean, I can understand having to point in a specific area but that was intense. Besides that, the things were hidden with no logic what so ever, it was practically a matter of luck.
It took me a while to figure out what to do with the remote once the batteries were put in

Where is the second half of the card? its driving me mad!!!
i keep putting the toxic waste in the blender..i have it plugged in and i have the blades inserted but everywhere i place the waste..it just wont bust..i tried everywhere in the blender and i just cant seem to get it when i press the pink button
How do i get the second battery? And how do i put the blender blade in the blender?
I have clicked, zoomed and clicked some more and can not for the life of me find the tape. I have everything else and know what I want to do but can't until I get that tape. Please help!!
yay i have found the second half of the card !

oh my goodness..when the foot appeared it freaked me out! i mean, who cuts their own foot off to open the trash can?????
I'm a big fan of "point and click" games, and I liked the concept of this on, and the fact that it was sort of a shout-out to "The Crimson Room" (fantastic game!).
However, this one frustrated me. Mainly because the interface of the game was lacking. It made finding things (even when you knew where they were supposed to be, or how they were supposed to work) very difficult. At one point one of my items just disappeared (it may have been lost behind the menu screen as Mike pointed out can happen).
If you are a BIG fan of point and clicks, you have a lot of patience, and a nice sturdy TAB button ready...then this game is at least worth giving it a go. However...be prepared to use that TAB key often, over and over and over....
Good luck!!
Ah! I cant find the second battery, the dynamite or the brick or the key
How do you put the dynamite in the blender?
HELP!!!!
k found the brick, and dynamite but i opend the 2nd draw by tabbing without the key
what is the card for?
HELP ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
ok done most of it but now im really stuck ive done the foot thing but all i need is the cd rom there is no draw in clock that i can see and thats all ineed please HELP
omg that foot thing nearly killed me i didnt know he screamed like that. it scared me
well,i finished the game,,the worst game i've ever played! I didnt use the computer, lighter,or the dynamite..I would rate this game a big fat 0!!!!
finished the game with out using the dynamite , saw or poster
I need help!!!!!!!!! I can't find the second battery, I got the one from the ashtray.
Also, I can't find the lighter, I don't know how to use the blender! CAN SOME ONE HELP ME?!?!?!!?!
how do u put the toxic waste in!!!!!!!!!??????!!!!
If your looking for the second battery

and the four letter password

That game really sucked....I like point-and-click games like any other person, and escape rooms are awesome, but this one was very disappointing.
A lot of it was just glitched, and the finger made it difficult to click things correctly.
is it just me, or is it the game? i've entered the access card into the slot and i still cant get the door to open...
Why hasn't anyone said where the tape is? Where's the tape?!
1) help me plz. where is the second battery?
i hav the one in the ashtry..
2) where is the remote to put the batteries into?
3) where is the saw??
HELP PLZ...OMG NOT EVEN FUNNY. i hav been on this for hours.

hehe i just wanted to put this
wheres the saw
can somebody post the walktrough?
I can't find the second battery anywhere. I have everything else. I've read through the comments above and one person says that it is under the sheet on the bed and one person says that it is on the bottom left shelf of the nightstand (what nightstand?). Either way, I can't find it. Help.

can someone tell me what to do with this panel in the wall?
This game was atrocious. A fine concept, clearly lots of hard work and effort from Mr. Keyte, but nonetheless atrocious in execution. However, if you are like me and simply must finish a game you start, no matter how detrimental it is to your logical faculties, here is a

Great walkthrough Mineralogy, can see you shared my deep hatred and frustration towards the game as well ;) Not that it matters, as I have to complete every single stupid game I set my eyes on.
A note after using the walkthrough:

Also, the glitch is hilarious. And even without using the glitch, the foot is a complete "WTF?!" moment.
There's no sound effects in this game. It made me a bit sad, especially after playing Seven Noble Kinsmen, which has plenty of sound.
no logic, annoying pixel hunts, non-user friendly interface, too glitchy. if your thinking of playing this....... dont. its not worth the hassle.
Found a way to turn off the very annoying music. Accidentally scrolled the middle roll mouse button and it was silent... for about two minutes, anyway... :)
