From Start to Finish

From Start to FinishJust a small game from the website of The Observer Sport Monthly, a publication over here in the UK. From Start to Finish combines fantastic art design with old school gameplay, this is one for the button-mashers among you. The game is a timed race through 5 different sports: hurdling, football, swimming, basketball and motorcycling. The controls are simple: alternating quickly between z and x increases your speed, whereas space avoids certain obstacles on each level which are designed to invariably slow you down.

Each of the 5 levels boasts a unique graphical style, from pixelated graphics resemblant of those on the Commodore 64, to a stylized blue ink sketch. The ambient sound affects in some areas are a pleasure to behold.

There isn't much to the gameplay, and yet I found myself going back to it again and again to try and better myself, my best time so far being a little over 38 seconds. Depending on your time, you can enter a prize draw to win an iPod or a digital camera, however the prize draw is only open to those of us over 18 and who live in the UK. Click.

Update: The Observer Sport Monthly has officially closed this game, therefore it is no longer available to play.

Wow, nice stuff.. the art is fantastic

I thought you were all for "quality, not quantity" jay. Maybe this one sneaked through the net because you can win stuff...

I agree with my UK mate, Capuchin, on this game's artistic merits. There are a variety of styles that have been strung together very nicely, and it's a worthwhile experience from a game design perspective.

The prizes have nothing to do with why it appears here, especially since residents of the UK are the only ones eligible. =(

All I get is message "You need flash to view this page." I have Flash player 8 beta installed to test everything is working with it, so maybe the site needs to update its Flash detection code before Flash8 comes out and nobody can play their game anymore.

Tonypa, I just downloaded the new beta and tried it, it all seems to work for me. :/

You are right, Capuchin, it does work with Flash8 in IE. But I still cant access the site with Opera.

40.2 is the best I can do!

Mason: Heh, keep trying, I didnt really try hard to get my 38.1 time. I'm sure i could do better

spacebar wont work here =/
i can only run, but not kick or jump =/

regards, brain

this link is (i believe) officially dead
