denudation

SatoriWhen something gets in between you and happiness in life, you have a few options depending on your personality. You could write the offender a terse note a la Miss Manners and not invite them to attend your summer gala. For others, a cartoonishly-oversized battle axe — or a golf ball in the gas tank — is the preferred approach. But you probably haven't given much thought to targeting the offender with a barrage until they're nothing but a useless heap of pixels, and then absorbing those pixels and using them for your own, hopefully much better, purposes. This is something I really wish I'd known you could do before challenging the judge presiding over my fix-it ticket to an old-fashioned duel, weapon of choice: Siberian tigers. Zillix breaks it all down for us nice and neat in his new shooter, denudation.

Movement is with the [arrows], while [X] fires and [Z] pulls in any spare pixels in your immediate vicinity. Interestingly, you can double-jump (and even triple- and quadruple-jump if you'd like) by pressing up... provided you've got the pixels to spend of course, as each jump beyond the first will jettison one. (Though oddly, if you jump while still holding [Z] you can collect that pixel again and keep repeating the process.) Along with more pixels come increased sizes and character abilities. Made for Ludum Dare, denudation is almost lamentably brief, yet features a gameplay dynamic that's enjoyable to play and comes with two different possible endings. So if you can spare your coffee break, definitely try this one. You'll never pass by a pile of bricks again without getting the same rush of excitement you used to get from Legos.

It's cute and fun, but buggy... Once I got shot by the core the game froze. I'd like to play more!

Ok, was able to play through without any crashes this time. Good game, nice narrative, decent controls. Some of the fights are a bit frustrating as you get hit a lot and gathering all the fragments back is a touch repetitive.

Got really laggy towards the end. Became more an exercise in frustration than anything else. But an interesting concept.

I agree the game play is pretty interesting with pulling in the blocks and using them to jump/shoot. Would like to see a more full-fledged game with this.

That was pleasant. It's short but well put together. The end phase of the boss battle is a tad ridiculous with the bulletspam though.

I really want to like this game, but the hideous amounts of lag from all of the blocks on screen make the game unplayable for me and that is a shame.

Ah I had to quit before I could finish because the stuttering was driving me crazy. I really like the concept, but near the end the lagging and inundation of bombs left me blindly smashing buttons. Too bad.

Okay, I reached something yellow at the top of a hill. I stood there, nothing happened. I explored the other side, you couldn't get past.

I even went right back to the start, you couldn't go that way either.

So where the heck were you supposed to go?
It stopped giving instructions right where they would have been useful.

Okay, actually TELLING us we could shoot that freaking alter MIGHT have been useful info.

Now completed game.

It'd be nice if all my "bits" fell to Earth so I could do quadruple jumps right after getting shot.
