Robby

DoraThe most recent Ludum Dare challenged people to make a game in just 48 hours themed around "10 Seconds", and for Morusque that was more than enough time to turn out this quirky little point-and-click puzzle game called Robby. Robby's plan to rob a bank doesn't go over well when a police officer shows up despite the teller's cooperation, and now he has until the copper counts to ten to drop his gun... but since that'll wind you up in prison, what's the point in doing that? Just click around to interact with things when their names appear as you mouse over them, but be warned... each click counts as a second, making the game turn-based, and you don't have long to figure out a way out. You do, however, have a lot of options... and a lot of ways this could go badly for you.

Though it is, by design, a very short little game, chances are you'll have to play through it multiple times in order to concoct a scheme that will get you out alive and jail-free. Normally that sort of trial-and-error would be frustrating, but with Robby's surreal, weirdo style and so cheerfully silly to boot, experimenting is more fun than not. You can leave the bank, threaten the tellers, try to break the chandelier, visit stores, and so on, and so forth, and somewhere in there you'll find a way to let Robby go free. I, for one, would love to see further adventures of Robby, and if you've got a sense of humour, a little initiative, and a bit of the ol' MacGuyver in you when it comes to getting out of bad situations, chances are you will too.

Play Robby

Alright, I beat it. Word of advice:

You can't beat the game on your first try, because the solution requires information you can only get from a doomed timeline.

...Did I just type "doomed timeline"? I read too much Homestuck.

That was a fun, little game with a unique art style (seriously, how often do you see a game using ASCII art?).

The only complaint I have is that each new game is done by refreshing the page, which takes a surprisingly long time to load. An in-game restart would have been better, but I guess I'm asking a bit too much from a 48-hour challenge!

Can't figure out how to do anything other than use the phone, get the ladder and shoot people, none of which are getting me anywhere. Help! (I may be dense, since there are lots of options mentioned and I can't seem to find any of them) Many thanks!

Hi knotofnine, have you tried

leaving the bank and going down the road?

That should give you some more options.

I couldn't figure out how, but realize that some of my options are kind of hard to find and at the very edge of the screen. Thanks!

OK I'm stuck ...

1. I can't find a way to burn the chandelier wire with the torch within 10 clicks - is this possible?

2. Does the arms dealer ever arrive, or have any bearing on the story once you call the number?

Reply

@craftycurate:

Go into the safe room after calling the arms dealer and move the ladder, then return. He'll have arrived by then.

OK thanks!

Is there an ending where you get the money?

Fun little distraction!

Ending goes to show that there are things more important than money in life!
...Like living. That's important
Or, if I missed the ending where you get to keep the money, it only goes to show how bad I am at point and click games. :p

wildly unfulfilling...

You don't get the money in the end!?!?!?

I looked through the source code, there are only 3 endings.

You can't escape with the money, but you can be shot, go to jail, or escape to the rooftop. It's possible to call 911 on the phone, which is kind of funny, or you can call random numbers, and I even saw something about hypnotizing the policeman, but you can't count faster than him, so it's a death-route.

what i did was

call 66602 on the phone
go into the back room and grab the latter
go to the bank, the arms dealer should be there
grab the torch from him
(shoot the tellers for fun)
climb up the latter
burn the rope
go farther into the tunnel
