Link Dump Fridays

DoraInternet! I call upon you to cast aside your memes and your chat roulettes, your Yahoo Answers trolling and your firsts, to take up this most noble of quests, this most urgent of endeavours, and play these games or... or... uh... hm. Well... nothing will happen, I guess. Huh. Should've... should've checked that out to make sure before I went ahead and commissioned your adventuring party. But, hey, I'm sure it's cool. After all, how much can a level 16 dwarven berserker with 19 strength and a level 18 Thayvian wizard with a staff of power cost, right?... right?... hey, can I borrow a couple priceless artifacts?

  • Tiny BlockmanTiny Blockman - Sometimes, you wake up in the morning a second before your alarm is due to go off, and you stare at the ceiling, and you think, "I wish I was a tiny orange dude with super flatulent jumping powers." And then the alarm rings and the spell breaks and you heave yourself out of bed with a sigh for another day of working for the Man. Well I say to you NO LONGER! Just fire up this little platformer and live out your little orange dude bein', mega jump doin' fantasies.
  • Ninja PainterNinja Painter - There are a lot of skills and powers I would probably use irresponsibly if I had them, which is one of thirteen reasons on the bullet-point list Superman read me about why I'm banned from the Super Friends. However, if you must use your ninja bamf-zip powers for good and not flipping out and killing everyone, painting seems as good a choice as any. In this adorable little puzzle game your task is to speed around the screen, gathering the proper paint colours, and then painting the corresponding areas. It's simple and maybe a little too easy, but oh so ninja responsible.
  • Tube CrisisTube Crisis - I've never been on a subway train, because if Fear Net and Chiller have taught me anything it's that they are the exclusive domain of creative murderers and sociopaths (thanks a lot, Clive Barker, Franka Potente), but apparently the truth is much ickier. In this short, silly point-and-click puzzler, it's your job to get the girl crammed in with other travelers a bit of much-needed breathing room by figuring out the correct order to click on things to get people to leave. If only real life were true to fiction, I would have found traveling by Greyhound much more palatable.
  • The God of PovertyThe God of Poverty - I can't help but think Wang Lung's farming would have gone a bit better if he had starred in a point-and-click title like this. There would have been less tear-stained pages if all he'd had to contend with when poverty came a'knockin' was a pair of ninja playing catch on his roof. Yes, it's another surreal set of screens from your friend and mine Minoto, where it seems like every day is a nonsensical wonderland of visual stimuli and anything that isn't adorable isn't allowed. (Which is apparently what half the people I meet think Canada is like.)

Tiny Blockman was surpisingly fun. Especially his spontaneous wall-jumping animation. xD

Only thing that disturbed me was the music and sound FX couldn't be turned off, but otherwise it was fine.

[For Tiny Blockman, press the [+] and [-] keys to raise and lower the sound volume. -Jay]

Methinks you're a Realms fan, Dora. Kinda surprised I haven't gotten any personal messages.

Or have I found one of those odd subsets of D&Ders that hasn't heard of me?

Don't know if I should send an e-mail or post it somewhere in a game comment thread, but the past couple of weeks (months?) it seems that the frame where the game is placed is too small for a game. Same here with Tiny Blockman, but it's the case for virtually all games.

Is this browser-related or a bug in your website?

I'm referring to this link as an example:
https://jayisgames.com/games/tiny-blockman/

It seems that this leads to a standard page where the game is included.

With Ninja Painter this is not the case btw, the 'game frame' is also bigger there, so the game fits perfectly. So maybe I have to stand corrected and change from 'virtually all games' to 'a lot of games'. But still, it happens too much to go by unnoticed.

Sorry, for the repetitive posting, but thought I'd just give you a few examples. Sym-A-Pix also has the same symptoms, it doesn't fit.

@Swoopie:

Sounds like your browser may be zoomed in too far. Try holding Ctrl and scrolling the mouse wheel down.

With regard to 'The God of Poverty' I think Minoto should change his medication. His games normally make some kind of sense but this one is weirder than usual. Is this perhaps a retelling of a classic folk tale ?

@Dora
It's running Firefox 4.0.1, Windows 7, Flash 10.3.181.14. However, It seems Night Stryke just solved my problem...

@Night Stryke
Thanks man! This was indeed the case. Not so much zoomed IN too far, but zoomed OUT. Never noticed that because it was only one notch. CTRL + 0 (reset zoom) did the trick. Thanks! Damn, I feel silly now ;)

Gyah! Tube Crisis is absolutely ADORABLE! That was an incredibly fun little experience that had me laughing, actually laughing! I loved the characters evolution from near panic to bold confidence. Don't dismiss it, give it a try!

Ninja Painter is too funny! The next time we need the outside of our house painted, I'm definitely hiring some ninjas.

I played Tube Crisis long ago when it was on Lazylaces. As I remember, it was originally an advergame for some sort of portable music player or some such. It feels weird seeing the main character without headphones.

A level select feature on Tiny Blockman would be nice.

I'm stuck in tube rider. There are only 2 other people left on the train and I can't find anything else to click.

The two people are a tall skinny man in a blue suit, and a short man in a hat and striped coat.

I'm stuck on Tube Crisis at the part where the man in the loud suit is pressed up against her and the tall guy is just standing there, everyone else is gone. Can't find the next thing to put my mouse on, and all the likely suspects aren't giving me the hand icon.

Okay, took a little more hunting, butt I found it.

@pesky. Agreed! I was just thinking to myself: this game make even less sense than usual. (Wondering what the hell is going on is of course part of the enjoyment of playing a Minoto classic.) I also assumed this was because it related to some Japanese fable I didn't know. Anyone able to shed any light on it?

@Username Stuck there too, where is it?

Ninja painter looks is like it's brother icy gifts, easy and fun. Reference at penultimate level (hard).

Tiny Blockman feels like it's lacking something, the timer seems to follow you through other levels (bummer), on the third level there is no way to progress and there is only a sign saying "...". Like if this is under-construction or it's slapped together funny, it's a good game just needs some polishing. On the second level there's a locked door leading to what seems a life and when trying to walk through since I barely saw the door a brain appears telling me I need a key.

@May
I spent quite a bit of time on that myself.

check out the rocker guy's pockets

on the last 2 people:

check the blue suit guy's pocket - it's hidden but if you mouse over it you'll see

It's amazing how many of Minoto's games -don't- make it on here, to be honest...for example, the last one I recall seeing was the first of the Wizard of Oz series, which I recall being at least 4 games long.

Granted, you could probably finish every Minoto game ever made from start to finish in the course of a lunch break...not much on length, this lot.

I'm a bit stuck on Tube Crisis when

the fat guy is flirting with the main character.

I can't find anything to click on!

I did a little Google searching - Bimbogami is the Japanese God of Poverty. "He doesn''t help the poor - he makes you poor. He is filthy, scruffy, ragged and bearded and you will find it very difficult to get rid of him if he gets inside your home."

Minoto is my favorite!

Justin: Ah, that make a little sense. Thanks for the ref to the traditional tale.

to break one of the windows in the middle to get to the red paint.
